A bunch of titles in the Libby Sarjeant series by Lesley Cookman appear to be fairly recent Amazon US price drops (from $2.99 to $1.24) or US Kindle Countdown deals. (I only checked a selection at eReaderIQ, so a few of these might be more "permanent" prices.) There are a lot, so I'm not going to reproduce all of the blurbs here - you'll have to look for yourself.

Murder in Steeple Martin (#1) at $0.99:

Murder at the Laurels (#2) at $1.24:
http://www.amazon.com/Murder-Laurels...dp/B0088OVKMW/

Murder in Midwinter (#3) at $1.24:
http://www.amazon.com/Murder-Midwint...dp/B008C2AK0I/

There is also a three-volume set of the first three titles, which may be more cost effective at $2.99 if you don't own any of them already:

Murder in Bloom (#5) at $1.24:

Murder in the Green (#6) at $1.24:
http://www.amazon.com/Murder-Green-L...dp/B008C2C4IY/

Murder Imperfect (#7) at $1.24:
http://www.amazon.com/Murder-Imperfe...dp/B008C2C790/

Murder at the Manor (#9) at $1.24:
http://www.amazon.com/Murder-Manor-L...dp/B008C2KV5W/

Murder by Magic (#10) at $1.24:
http://www.amazon.com/Murder-Magic-L...dp/B00883BFV4/

Murder in the Monastery (#11) at $1.24:
http://www.amazon.com/Murder-Monaste...dp/B00AQJY132/

Murder in the Dark (#12) at $1.24:

Murder in a Different Place (#13) at $1.24:
http://www.amazon.com/Murder-Differe...dp/B00JLJFJ4S/

Murder in the Blood (#15) is a US Kindle Countdown deal at $0.99 for about 5 more days before going up to $4.99:

This weeks Wildside Press freebie is The Spicy Mystery Mini Pack, available today (and maybe tomorrow morning) only...
Quote:
THE SPICY MYSTERY MINIPACK™
Here is a selection of tales from the “Spicy” line of mystery pulps—full of politically incorrect (even for their own time!) tales of murder, menace, sex, sadism, and other stuff parents wouldn’t want their kids reading. By modern standards, they are quite tame...but can be fun if you’re in the mood for a trip down the dark alleys of pulp publishing.

Enjoy!

Doctor Frigo and The Care of Time by Eric Ambler available free.

Following on from post 617 here about Doctor Frigo being available from Kobo UK, and especially for the benefit of non-UK/Aus Kobo users and Kindle users, two Eric Ambler books are available from the website http://ericamblerbooks.com on subscription to their Eric Ambler mailing list (with an option to receive e-books from other authors).

On subscribing and confirming email address, a message indicates you will receive the first e-book within 48 hours.

Sure enough an email arrived, including links to download The Care of Time in both .epub and .mobi formats. (These will need to be side-loaded, unlike the free Doctor Frigo on the Kobo store.) The email said that a further email will be sent next week, with links for Doctor Frigo.

All four of John Leslie's Gideon Lowry/Key West mysteries, originally published in DTB in the 1990's, are US Kindle Countdown deals right now. They are $0.99, down from $3.99 for about 2 1/2 more days. This series goes on Countdown often, and sometimes (rarely) one will be free, so with patience you might do better, but $0.99 for backlist books is pretty good.

Titles are:

  • Killing Me Softly
  • Night and Day
  • Love for Sale
  • Blue Moon

The "main" US Kindle daily deal today is 10 Agatha Raisin mysteries by MC Beaton for $2.99 each. I don't usually post daily deals, since others do in other threads, but this one is pretty specifically mystery, so I thought I'd post it:

I noticed this omnibus/collection while looking for other things:

Susan McBride Collection - contains all five Debutante Dropout titles

It just recently (per eReaderIQ) dropped from $4.99, which would have been pretty good for five titles, to $1.99, which is 40 cents each and pretty darn great. It's Witness Impulse, so not couponable at Kobo, but still a good deal. Might be couponable somewhere like Kobo South Africa or Kobo New Zealand...

All of these titles have been on sale before, and I liked the series in DTB, so I already had them all, but if you haven't got any/many, you might take a look.

Amazon US link: http://www.amazon.com/Susan-McBride-...dp/B00N81I6LS/
Kobo US link: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/eb...ide-collection

No blurb provided, but the five titles are:
  • Blue Blood
  • Good Girls Guide to Murder
  • Lone Star Lonely Hearts Club
  • Night of the Living Deb
  • Too Pretty to Die

And also this one from Witness Impulse:

The Cooper and Fry Mystery Collection #1 by Stephen Booth contains:
  • Black Dog
  • Dancing with the Virgins
  • Blood on the Tongue

At $3.99 for three titles, it's not as much of a bargain as the McBride one, but still pretty good. However, the first title was briefly free not too long ago, and the third title was $0.99 for a while, so check carefully if this makes sense for you. Each of these three titles is "normally" $2.99 each.

I'm happy to see that "#1" in the title - maybe WI (part of HarperCollins) will start issuing more of these reasonably priced collections of backlist titles.

Quote:
A special value for fans of Louise Penny and Peter Robinson—the first three unforgettable Cooper & Fry novels in one e-book: Black Dog, Dancing with the Virgins and Blood on the Tongue.

Black Dog: The search for beautiful, teenaged Laura Vernon is over when her body is found, mutilated, in the forest. Ben Cooper is on the case, and he's been paired with a new partner. Diane Fry is as tenacious as she is alluring. But the two must work together to apprehend a killer who is hiding in plain sight.

Dancing with the Virgins: As winter closes in on the moors, so does murder. The body of a young woman is found within a ring of ancient cairns and a second woman has been attacked, savagely wounded and severely traumatized…but alive. Cooper & Fry must unlock the memories trapped inside her mind before more blood is shed among the stones.

Blood on the Tongue: A New Year means new homicides to solve in the icy depths of a bitter January. A woman is found, dead, who seems to have curled up in the freezing snow and lain there until her heart stopped. Did she go willingly towards death or is there a more sinister explanation? Cooper & Fry are desperate to find the answers.

Warning: reading this bundle may result in an addiction to the mysteries of Cooper & Fry.

All three of the Murder a-Go-Go series by Rosemary Martin (pen name for Rosemary Stevens) have just dropped to $0.99 on Amazon US from their more normal $2.99. I remember reading and liking the first in the series many years ago, so am happy to see these three drop, and am hoping I'll like the next two as well. No idea how long the drop will last.

#1) It's A Mod, Mod, Mod, Mod Murder

Spoiler:
Quote:
By ROSEMARY STEVENS, Winner of the Agatha Award and Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Award!

In the era of MAD MEN, there's a lighter side to NYC, one with go-go boots, miniskirts, and murder!

Series description: Wow! Here am I, Bebe Bennett, in New York City in 1964, with my very own apartment, my fun-loving roommate, Darlene--she's a stewardess--and the coolest job a girl could want as a secretary to my dreamy boss, Bradley...I mean, Mr. Williams, vice president of talent for Rip City Records. Checkered cabs, the Peppermint Lounge, London fashions- I want to try it all!

Book One: Now that the Beatles are topping the charts, Bebe's boss has signed up the British group Philip Royal and the Beefeaters for his record label. But when Bebe and Darlene go to the Legends Hotel to meet two members of the band for a fab night out, they find Philip dead--electrocuted with his own guitar. Even worse, the fuzz suspect Darlene and ground her from flying. So, it's up to Bebe to abandon her Jackie Kennedy-inspired suits and venture into the smoky nightclubs of Greenwich Village, delving into the dark side of the swinging city to expose a killer...

"Bebe's charming naivete...her gusto for the singles life, and her considerable intellect make her an unusually appealing sleuth. Add this to the plethora of sixties details, and the result is a clever mystery that's also a trip back to a time when things were groovier." Publisher's Weekly

"Toss a fresh-faced secretary-school graduate (and her flight attendant roomie), a hip British-invasion band, and a hotel room together in the blender that is 1960s New York City, and what do you get? Murder (with the roommate a prime suspect)--and the ensuing undercover investigation. That's what happens in Rosemary Martin's quirky novel..." The New York Post

"A groovy trip back in time." Romantic Times

#2) Twist & Shout Murder

In the era of MAD MEN, there's a lighter side to NYC, one with go-go boots, miniskirts, and murder! Shake It Up, Baby!

Series Description: My fab life in New York City just keeps getting better! Dreamy Bradley Williams has a new job at the Ryan Modeling Agency, and he's taken me with him. Of course, I'd follow Bradley anywhere, but a bonus and a new title -- executive secretary -- can sure boost a girl's spirits! Now if only Bradley would figure out that the title I really want is Mrs. Williams...

Book Two: Bebe Bennett's spent her bonus on glad rags straight from Carnaby Street -- all with miniskirts to show off her legs. But Bradley still calls her "kid", and worse, he's totally gone on the company's top model, Suzie Wexford. Suzie's beauty really is only skin-deep -- she's scratched her way to the top, making plenty of enemies along the way. So it's no surprise when she winds up dead, strangled with a Pucci scarf -- a gift from Bradley!

Bebe knows Bradley would never commit murder, but no one else seems to care. And if that weren't enough to stop a swinging chick in her tracks, she also has to contend with a visit from her parents, a photo shoot in the Virgin Islands, and dates with the Burma-Shave man. Despite it all, Bebe's determined to work it on out and find the real killer -- or the man of her dreams could wind up behind bars...

"Another...sixties retro-cozy from Martin, whose charming Murder A-Go-Go mystery series stars endlessly perky and naive Bebe Bennett...All supercute cozy aficionados are sure to find this offering as intoxicating as an extra-dry martini." -- Publishers Weekly

"Another groovy entry into a very mod series that will win new fans and keep readers anxious for the next Bebe and Bradley adventure." -- The Mystery Reader

"Bebe is a spunky live wire who will stop at nothing to save her boss and impress him with her ingenuity, cleverness and dedication. The upbeat, optimistic atmosphere of the story captures the heady days of the early sixties when worries were few and everything seemed possible. This engaging mystery is sure to entertain." -- Romantic Times

By ROSEMARY STEVENS, Winner of the Agatha Award and the Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Award!

In the era of MAD MEN, there's a lighter side to NYC, one with go-go boots, miniskirts, and murder!

Series Description: The name's Bennett. Bebe Bennett. It's 1964 in groovy New York City, and secret agents are all the rage -- especially Sean Connery as James Bond. So dreamy. But not as dreamy as my boss, Bradley Williams, who's taking me to his new job as his very special assistant. Who knew working in a famous toy store would lead to murder -- or require that I become a real-life secret agent girl to solve the crime?

Book Three: Bebe's busy at Merryweather's Toy Shoppe on Fifth Avenue, celebrating its fortieth anniversary in mint style. But the shop's mascot, Mr. Skidoo the clown, has the other beloved store characters -- plus Bebe -- real bent. No secret is safe from this evil jester, and wherever he and his mini-tricycle go, veiled and vicious razzes are sure to follow. So it's no surprise when Mr. Skidoo turns up dead with a toy pirate sword plunged into his chest. Now even Bebe's a suspect, since Mr. Skidoo found out about her secret crush on Bradley. Using her latest sleuthing skills, culled from the new Bond movies and her fave show, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Bebe will clear her name.

Praise for the Murder A-Go-Go Mysteries:

"Bebe's charming naivete...her gusto for the singles life, and her considerable intellect make her an unusually appealing sleuth. Add this to the plethora of sixties details, and the result is a clever mystery that's also a trip back to a time when things were groovier." -- Publishers Weekly

"Think 'That Girl!' meets Miss Marple and you'll have a ball!" -- Jerrilyn Farmer

"A fun blast from the past." -- The Romance Reader's Connection

"Rosemary Martin has got under the skin of the early sixties, which come to vibrant life...This is one series I will make sure I don't miss out on -- great stuff!" -- MyShelf.com

  • Billy Boyle: A World War II Mystery by James R. Benn (SYKM, Wikipedia) the 1st in his long-running historical mystery series starring a Boston cop turned aide and undercover spy/murder solver in Europe for his uncle-by-marriage General Eisenhower, with cases based on actual historical incidents (with notes in the back). This has previously been offered free in the past, a long time ago, and I've since read all the novels in the series and very much enjoyed them, so this is highly recommended if you're interested in nicely-researched military mysteries set in this era. Two novels in the series have been award finalists, according to SYKM.
  • Wyatt by Australian author Garry Disher (SYKM, Wikipedia), 7th in the eponymous series which seems to be a crime/suspense thing starring a thief in Melbourne. This one won the 2011 Ned Kelly Award, according to SYKM.

@ $2.99
  • Outsider in Amsterdam by the late Dutch author Janwillem van de Wetering (SYKM, Wikipedia), 1st in his long-running Amsterdam Cops series starring Exactly What It Says In The Series Title of vintage cases, this installment originally out in 1975. One of the series was an Anthony Award finalist, according to SYKM.
  • The Last Detective by British author Peter Lovesey (SYKM, Wikipedia), 1st in his long-running Peter Diamond series of contemporary detective mysteries starring a policeman in Bath, England. This one was the 1992 Anthony Award winner for Best Mystery, according to SYKM.

Three Can Keep a Secret is the 24th in the Joe Gunther series by Archer Mayor. It just dropped from $9.99 to $2.99 at Amazon US, no idea for how long.

Most of the first 15 or so books in this series have cycled through US Kindle Countdown several times already (I assume the rights reverted), but the later ones do not, so it's nice to see the price drop on this one.

Quote:
Archer Mayor's New York Times bestselling Joe Gunther series returns with a complex case involving two corpses, one escaped mental patient, and a long-held secret that binds them together

"Three can keep a secret, if two of them are dead." --Ben Franklin

Joe Gunther and his team--the Vermont Bureau of Investigation (VBI)--are usually called in on major cases by local Vermont enforcement whenever they need expertise and back-up. But after the state is devastated by Hurricane Irene, the police from one end of the state are taxed to their limits, leaving Joe Gunther involved in an odd, seemingly unrelated series of cases. In the wake of the hurricane, a seventeen year old gravesite is exposed, revealing a coffin that had been filled with rocks instead of the expected remains.

At the same time, an old, retired state politician turns up dead at his high-end nursing home, in circumstances that leave investigators unsure that he wasn't murdered. And a patient who calls herself The Governor has walked away from a state mental facility during the post-hurricane flood. It turns out that she was indeed once "Governor for a Day," over forty years ago, but that she might have also been falsely committed and drugged to keep her from revealing something that she saw all those years ago. Amidst the turmoil and the disaster relief, it's up to Joe Gunther and his team to learn what really happened with the two corpses--one missing--and what secret "The Governor" might have still locked in her brain that links them all.
