It installed fine on my Sammy N150 Plus which has a resolution of 1024x600. I didn't force anything, and it sorted drivers and stuff all by itself. I seem to have lost the ability to adjust screen brightness for some weird reason (stuck at 100%) but other than that everything else is working as it should. And now for my rant of the day...The SP3 pen top button and OneNote Desktop: MS have updated the Surface app that's in the store - "great" I think, "maybe they've fixed the thing and setting the pen top button to open OneNote Desktop will now work". Erm, nope, instead of fixing it, they've removed that option altogether ![]() Last edited by Yolina; 08-28-2015 at 04:26 PM. |

As I've whined about on a previous post, I'd like to disable the top pen button entirely. It's not as much of an issue anymore, since I got a new sleeve that has a pen pocket that protects the button a bit more; but I still get the occasional accidental OneNote instance draining my battery.

The Sammy is slightly faster on 10 than it was on 7 starter, no touchscreen on that obviously.

I just bought a little Asus netbook about 6 weeks ago. Upgraded it to Windows 10 with no issues. I've never changed the screen resolution, it's at 1366x768. I never had to force anything to do the upgrade, it's an 11" screen.

Thanks, that definitely answers it then. It's really odd it wouldn't push the update to my 10" netbook until I forced the screen resolution higher, then I was offered Windows 10 on it. It has the original OEM Windows 7 Home version that came on the netbook, so there's no way it would not see it as a legit copy, the upgrade was definitely held back by the screen resolution.

MS is reconsidering the new policy of not detailing what is in the updates. But only for enterprise users:

I smell opportunity here, buy an enterprise license, get the change logs, publish them on a website, get lots of traffic, sell lots of adds.
I can't imagine the M$ would make enterprise licensees sign an NDA. |

Lots and lots of corporate sysadmins will have access to the data so it won't be private even if under NDA. Their (official) concern is about the cost of maintaining the change logs, not with keeping secrets. |

Well I was hoping the latest NVIDIA driver update (355.82) might finally fix my black-screening problem, but it appears to just be for game updates - Mad Max and Metal Gear Solid. I have purchased Mad Max, so want this update, but as soon as I try to download the game via Steam, my system black-screens within 5 minutes. Imagine trying to download 24.6GB of game in 5 minute increments, with a forced shut-down and reboot between each crash...
![]() ![]() The only way round it at the moment is for me to remove all of the various NVIDIA driver elements on my system, run DDU (Guru Display Driver Remover) in Safe Mode to get all of the bits left behind after the Programs and Features uninstall, and then in NVIDIA driverless mode, run Steam and let the download complete, and then reinstall all the NVIDIA drivers. This does work, proving there's definitely an NVIDIA GPU driver issue, but none of the 20 to 30 tweaks I have found through trawling the 'net have worked so far. My system also crashes every time there is a Windows update (the download element, I guess) so you can imagine at the moment how often that is happening. Soooo frustrating - I have pretty much given up actively trying to find a fix, and will now just have to monitor the various forums where the problem is being reported and hope a fix is eventually found. |
