Personally if my Surface is on a table with the keyboard attached I use a mouse, if it's on my lap without a keyboard I use the pen and my finger. Going forward when I buy my next laptop (no the Surface is not a full replacement) I won't be bothered about whether it's a touchscreen or not as I won't be using my finger on a screen that's vertically in front of me, I'll use a mouse. And that i think is the issue, most people won't find a touchscreen natural if the device is vertically in front of them, if it's on their lap that's a different story.

BTW, you can't prove a negative, that's like me asking you to prove that Denmark doesn't have a space station orbiting Jupiter, provide links.

You immediately turned this into an attack on me, effectively claiming that I was trying to start a flame war. You have since managed to turn this simple request for a clarification into an attack on pretty much anyone who disagrees with you. And while I will agree that Google is a wonderful resource, it suffers from a tendency to return too many inappropriate links for general queries, of which any UI query is one.

Here is a link to the abstract of one study on the effects of touchscreens so that the argument may be resumed on a more informed basis. http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/1...39.2011.592604 Conclusion: using touch screens with desktop PCs leads to shoulder strain. BTW the search did involve term refinement and link following, so I wouldn't call it straightforward. |

I wouldn't consider using a touchscreen with a desktop, however it's now one of my "must have" on a laptop

Btw, tablets aren't the only category stalling in the market. Desktop PCs are also stalled: http://www.cnet.com/news/computer-ta...st-gets-worse/ Quote:

Desktop sales have been in free fall for a long time. I work for an extremely large company and they've bought nothing but laptops for years now, and I imagine most home users buy a laptop in preference to a desktop, too. There are people who still buy desktops, such as hardcore gamers, but it's very much a minority market.
