I've now found the Firewall settings in W10 and set up a new rule to allow my Calibre port. I still can't connect.

did you tick the Public box (as well as the private)

also, there are 2 content servers. Did you use the Standalone (CLI) or the Calibre GUI one?

127.0.0.1:port works

Maybe you need to exclude something from Defender ('rebadged' MSE Ψ)

That said I've never had to exclude anything in anything at anytime.

Calibre server works for me under W10 via edge, firefox and chrome on the same box. And my W7 laptop can access the same w10 based calibre servers locally with IE11, firefox and chrome.

I haven't changed anything regarding calibre server since upgrading to W10. IIRC calibre-server has always 'just worked', I run multiple calibre-servers via command files with different port numbers for different libraries.

My use of calibre-server is local area only - ie no requirement for wide area access.

For local host only Ducks try with IPv6 go to calibre tweaks and change "What interfaces should the content server listen on" to:
Quote:
server_listen_on = '::'
Then type:
Code:
[::]:port#
into the address bar.

do you run cal-svr via command line or from GUI - I run from CLI.

Could it be your router? I know I need to update mine to fix an intermittent problem at boot time, it's related to my ISP's DSLAM config, and a Fixed Traffic Control issue in PPPoA mode.

Fails either way the content server is Launched (cli uses port 8083, Gui uses 8082)

Not a router issue, 6 devices (IE, Firefox, CC) have no issue accessing the content server on W10 (Only my 2 mobile devices normally connect via WiFi, CAT6/5 for the rest)

It is ONLY Edge (and IE), ON THE SERVER

BTW IE/Edge both ask me what 'app' to open with, then fail to find one in the store

@theducks - Why would IE and Edge ask for an 'app' (I hate that 'pseudo' word), don't they know what http is Maybe its related to Default Programs ?

However, I just discovered that if I use the machine-name in the URL, rather than the IP address, then Edge it says it cant find it. But Firefox and Chrome can find it. So that would seem to indicate that that problem is Edge specific rather than Win 10.

Bing was also messing with things (I hate searching from the address bar. I use a search bar/page for searches )

http://192.168.0.16:8083
works from any other place on the net

it's been 'ctrl+k type' since like forever - mosaic maybe.

Still that doesn't explain why my Edge works and yours doesn't.

I still can't access the calibre server even with W10 Firewall turned off and Calibre uninstalled and reinstalled No problem accessing it via Calibre Companion on my tablet so the problem is related to W10 blocking internet access.
If I can't get this to work I have no option but to go back to W7

Is the Content server on W10?

I have not had any problem accessing the content server from other devices.

and

There is no issue accessing a Content server running on XP from W10 edge

Edge does not seem to allow a looback (machine IP) access

Edge DOES allow localhost:<portnumber>
localhost is a valid URL name you can use it is mapped to 127.0.0.1

Calibre and it's content server (set within Calibre preferences) worked fine and were accessible from anywhere with internet access under W7. Since "upgrading" to W10 my IP and Calibre server port number cannot be accessed Connection times out without getting to log in page

I can access it locally with localhostortnumber or via Calibre Companion on my tablet. It's external access via my ip address that is the problem

Uh-uh - Edge works for me with an IP address, but not with a machine name. That's the only instance I have of calibre server not working on Win 10. Other than that it works just the same under Win 10 as it did under Win 7. I cannot recall doing anything special to make it work in Win7 - other than deciding on the port numbers for each library.
