(FIXED) Google Calendar unsupported by Edge and its browsers

Can my edge peers please verify the following?

The default browser as well as the latest Skyfire 2.3.3.19663 say this when accessing google calendar.
This is the first time I get this error.

The page at 'https://www.google.com' says:

Sorry, you are trying to use Google Calendar with a browser that isn't currently supported. Press OK to view a read only version of your calendar. Press Cancel to continue loading Google Calendar and hope for the best!
Upgrading to Skyfire 3.1 is a no-go because it requires Android version 2.x or later. And this device is still stuck on 1.6. Sorry if that sounded a little harsh, but I really need reliable access to google calendar. For me this is a show-stopper. I do not want to "hope for the best" when editing appointments on a calendar.

PS: opera mini seems to not get this error but is to minimalistic to work with on google calendar.

I guess its back to my laptop (for now?)

Model number: Edge
Firmware version 1.6
Build DINGO-1.11

You can find some good information on this issue (as well as some work-arounds) here, here, and here.

Good luck!

P.S. This is something that many of us are wishing for!

Thanks, but this used to work.

I mean I used to not get this error with the default browser or the skyfire browser. Its broken now.

I bet its broken because something was changed (or rather: updated) by the google calendar team.
Since the edge is still stuck on 1.6 we cannot fix it by upgrading to browsers that are fully supported, because supported browsers require a more recent version of android.

When relying on other sites, apps are hostage to such changes. The enTourage Tube app has been broken several times already because YouTube decided to change things at their end. It's an unhappy fact of life.

Have you tried Dr. T's suggestions?

I am a lurker so I already read those

Astrid, synced with Producteev to add appointments to google calendar?

.......

I just need an up-to-date browser. I dont think thats too much to ask for on an internet capable device.

A device with google android that cannot fully access the google calendar. Ouch.

I will rather search for a different browser that is supported by Google Calendar AND works on 1.6... <search in progress>

What is wrong with the native browser again? Seems to work fine for me.

I think you are having problems because you are trying to use the full desktop calendar version and not the mobile version

FIXED!

Or rather.. workaround. I just downloaded Dolphin Browser 3.1.1 from the AndAppStore
It seems this browser has two forks, which are seperately maintained and updated.

1) "Dolphin Browser" for android 1.6
2) "Dolphin Browser HD" for android 2.x and above

And this browser IS currently supported by google calendar at time of writing this. In "desktop" user agent mode. Or rather: I dont get the warning when using "Dolphin Browser 3.1.1." The force is strong in this one.

Yeah. For now.

Hope we get to 2.x or 3.x before this one breaks as well....

Dolphin is only way to go

I dropped Skyfire about 2 months ago, Dolphin has far less quirks.

FWIW, I get the same error message but opt for the Cancel button and hope for the best. Everything works on the desktop version of the google calendar in the stock browser and in Dolphin. The only noticeable difference is in portrait mode, the right side of the calendar which would have a scroll bar on a PC is just truncated and left open. It runs smooth and fast, allows viewing of all my different events on eight different color coded calendars, every calendar view works (i.e.: day, week, month, etc..), and allows creating events.

I was hung up on that error message for a while and kept clicking OK without reading it fully. The first time I clicked cancel, it made me wonder why it's even there. Hope this helps!
