I was browsing through Christianbook's sale list and found several Rose Publishing pamphlets for $.79. There are others, but these are the ones that I wanted and didn't already have.

The Life of the Apostle Paul
Life of Moses
50 Proofs For the Bible, New Testament
50 Proofs For the Bible, Old Testament

All four of these pamphlets include a link and password that will get you a PDF version emailed to you.

Rose Publishing books at Christianbook only allow a single download. I've found, though, that if you bookmark the download link in your browser before downloading, you can re-download the book from the bookmark if you're logged into your Christianbook account.

Baker Publishing and B&H also have quite a few books on sale. I already have the ones that I want, but there's a mix of apologetics, theology and fiction that might be worth looking through if you're into any of those.

E-books on sale, sorted by price.

Thanks. I think that I knew about that before, but I had forgotten it. I've bought almost all of the pamphlets that they have published. I'd like to have the pdf's, for "insurance" if nothing else. It's going to take a little while to download, save them, etc., though.

I didn't realize that about Rose Publishing's works. Thanks for the great workaround hint. Fantastic! That is until Rose finds out about it. And, again, I've already bought/downloaded most of the pamphlets, so this will only help me on the newly published stuff, I suppose.

Oh, I don't know if you know it or not, but Amazon almost always matches Christianbook's markdowns on the Rose Publishing stuff. Well, to within 20 cents, anyway. For example, when Christianbook has a pamphlet for 79 cents, Amazon will offer it for 99 cents. To me it is worth the difference in price to have the Amazon Kindle mobi.

The Authors of this Book Argue that Belief in Evolution Leads to Racism. Now $2.99.

The very high ratings surprise me. Usually books on such polarizing subjects as the existence of God, evolution, et al. struggle to get high ratings because of the low ratings (often lots of "1's") given by some of the people who are opposed to what they say. This should be a great read, regardless of whether or not you are persuaded by the authors' arguments.

One Race One Blood. By Charles Ware; Ken Ham. Rated 4.8, but from only 18 reviews at the present moment, at Amazon; rated 4.45 at GoodReads, from 20 ratings. Print list price $13.99; digital list price $7.99; Kindle price now $2.99. Master Books, publisher. 210 pages. http://www.amazon.com/One-Race-Blood...Race+One+Blood.

Book Description
It is a rarely discussed fact of history that the premise of Darwinian evolution has been deeply rooted in the worst racist ideology since its inception. This significant book gives a thorough account of the effects of evolution on the history of the United States, including slavery and the Civil rights movement, and goes beyond to show the global harvest of death and tragedy that still finds its roots in Darwin’s destructive writings.

The tragic legacy of Darwin’s controversial speculations on evolution has led to terrible consequences taken to the deadliest extremes. One Race One Blood reveals the origins of these horrors, as well as the truth revealed in Scripture that God created only one race.

You will discover:
• Nazi Germany used evolutionary concepts to justify the extermination of “unfit” people groups such as Jews, Gypsies, and Slavs
• The origins of people groups, the genetics of skin color, and the biblical truths on “interracial” marriage
• Eye-opening discussion on racism and its roots in the hearts and minds of millions still today.

Within these compelling pages, Dr. A. Charles Ware, president of Crossroads Bible College, and Ken Ham, president of Answers in Genesis examine the historical roots of racism that have permeated evolutionary thought, and the Bible’s response to this disturbing issue. This is a crucial and timely study that profoundly addresses the Christian worldview regarding “race” from a compassionate and uniquely compelling perspective.

You can't blame slavery on Darwin's work - slavery existed waaay before that. So did persecution of any group who might be somehow 'different' from the dominant group; Jews, gypsies, seventh grade kids who don't follow the herd....

I expect the book will point out that such nastiness was given justification by 'scientific' theories on how the whites were somehow more evolved and thus worthy of being in charge. There was a lot of claptrap devoted to proving 'scientifically' that 'we' were superior to 'they' (the we being WASP men the they being everyone else.

Poke around the history of eugenics for a bit and you'll find plenty of evidence of people attempting to give evolution a push by eliminating the 'unfit' from the gene pool (and giving 'scientific' reasons why such is desirable). Of course nothing made a person more 'unfit' then by being in a group the eugenicist didn't like ('undeserving' poor, 'mentally ill', gypsy, ......).

Nature was all, nurture nothing for such minds and anything that could be seized and manipulated to 'scientifically' prove their views and justify mistreatment t was so used (see I.Q. test history of) but I should stop ranting.

Have you bought any of the Amazon pamphlets to know if they include the PDF link? I bought some pamphlets from B&N that didn't include the link, but I re-bought the same pamphlets from Christianbook and they had the links. To be honest, I prefer the PDFs of the pamphlets (although I know that's a minority view around here).

Only in this forum. Feel free to add yourself to the "Hardened Debaters" group and head over to the Politics and Religion forum.

If you're squeamish about paying for it, One Race One Blood can be read online for free (along with a number of other books) at the Answers in Genesis website.

I bought one a couple of days ago, but hadn't checked it until just now. The link is included. I went ahead and went through Rose Publishing's procedure to get the pdf (an onerous one--I dread having to do this for every pamphlet that I've bought from them). It looks great.

I don't know that I prefer pdf's, but I sure have no problem with them as it seems that everyone else does. We should form a caucus. ha

Thanks for the info about the books being available, to read, on Master Book's site. I didn't know about that! Once again, you've come through with some really invaluable information! I am one who is squeamish about paying for it--I'm squeamish about paying for any ebook that I can get for free. ha

I've bought a pamphlet or two from Christianbook since you told about the trick to be able to download it more than once. By "download" do you mean purchasing or actually going to your "library" and clicking on the "download" button?

FREE--Nelson's Complete Book of Bible Maps and Charts, Plus One Other PDF.

UPDATE: I incorrectly stated that you could get both of the pdf's. In point of fact, you can only receive one. When you open the message that you receive in your email, it will tell you that, but it's easy to miss it. Thanks to badgoodDeb for pointing out my faux pas.

If you will go to http://nelsonfree.com/orthodoxstudybible, there is a very short form that you can fill out in order to get a free download of both of the following:
1. The Orthodox Study Bible reading plan.
2. Nelson's Complete Book of Bible Maps and Charts.
I would expect the downloads to be in the pdf format.

The first one of these may not be of interest to Mobilereaders following this thread, except for perhaps some in the eastern hemisphere. The second should be of wide interest to those following this thread.

The second one is definitely a very valuable offer. I own Nelson's Complete Book of Bible Maps and Charts, and really like it. The Kindle mobi, at Amazon, is rated 4.2 stars, from 122 reviews. The current price for it is $10.99.

The offer definitely appears to be aimed at people who have either bought, or expressed interest in, Nelson's The Orthodox Study Bible. However, there is nothing on the webpage to indicate that the offer is limited to them.

All that the form asks you for is your email address--twice (the second time for confirmation). There is no account to have to set up, and all of those kinds of things. Sweet. They do advise you that you may receive commercial email communications from HarperCollins Christian Publishing (the parent company of Thomas Nelson), but that you may unsubscribe at any time.

Thanks - I'll check that out. And thanks for the Amazon link so I could look at a sample first. Very helpful towards deciding.

CAUTION folks -- read carefully when you get the download link. This is an EITHER / OR choice. You only get to download ONE of the two. The book of maps and charts OR the reading plan.

Contrary to GtrsRGr8's wording, the books of maps was listed first for me. So read it before you click. This is the download link that they mail you, after you have already signed up.

[ Maybe I could have gone back and asked for the other download also, but each signup appears to be for ONE pdf file. ]

Genuine thanks for advising me on the number of different pdf's that a person could receive. I've posted an update to my initial message, to let people know.

I know that this may sound like I'm making excuses, but the text on the webpage that made the offer could be interpreted a couple of different ways. Let me quote: ". . . . offer you a free download of the Orthodox Study Bible reading plan and a free download of Nelson's Complete Book of Bible Maps and Charts" (emphasis mine, G.). I took that to mean that you could get both; however, it must have meant that they were making the two available, and the person would get to pick which one that he/she wanted.

Regarding the second (and I know that I've got the order right this time. ha) issue that you pointed out . . . . I think that you were saying that the order of the pdf's was reversed from what I said? The order may have been reversed in the email message from Nelson--I've forgotten now. But I was referring to the order that was given on the webpage that made the offer. At the time that I posted the offer I had not opened my email message from Nelson to know what the order was there.

Let me mention something else that I discovered. It's not really an error, but I want to let everyone know about it, because if I had known it when I was making my initial post, I would have advised everyone of it. When I opened the pdf of the books and charts ebook, I noticed that it is pretty heavily watermarked on, it looks like, every page. That's not much of an issue if you are just reading it for your own benefit, but it would be an issue if you copied it (which might not be legal anyway) to use if for some other purposes.

A couple of years ago, I found a webpage in which all of the charts and maps of this book were separately downloadable, for free. There were no watermarks on them. I posted the information on Mobileread, and when I get through with this message I will try to find the post. I don't remember the details very clearly. I'll let you know what I find out.

It says either/or, but it lets you download both up to five times each. If you go back to the email they sent you and click the same link again, it should tell you that you've got four tries left on the maps book and five on the Bible reading plan.

If the watermark offends you, it's not tough to make invisible. If you happen to have an editor that lets you do search and replace in binary files, make a copy of the file (since it's easy to wreck a PDF) and replace "[ 1 0 1 0 1 0 1 0 ]" with "[ 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 ]".

If you have Windows and no fancy editor, download "dd-0.5.zip" from here. Make a working directory somewhere that's easy for you to get to with a command line and extract dd.exe into the directory. Next copy NelsonsCompleteBookofBibleMapsandCharts23.pdf into the directory. Then use notepad to create a file named "b.txt" with the line "[ 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 ]" (without the quotes and no carriage return; if you check the file properties, it should contain 19 bytes). Now open a command line and navigate to your working directory. Type the following:
Code:
dd if=NelsonsCompleteBookofBibleMapsandCharts23.pdf of=a bs=480661 count=1
dd if=NelsonsCompleteBookofBibleMapsandCharts23.pdf of=c bs=480680 skip=1
copy /b a+b.txt+c fixed.pdf
"Fixed.pdf" doesn't splash the annoying Thomas Nelson logo across every page.

I must have missed where it said that it was an either/or situation. My bad.

Yeah, I am not nearly computer-savvy enough to have known how to remove the watermark manually, like you described. But I have seen numerous programs that claim to be able to do it, and I could have picked up one of those--probably even free, as freeware or shareware. But either one of those alternatives is almost more trouble than the ebook is worth to me. And, actually, I bought the ebook (in mobi, I think) a while back when it was marked way down; I was interested in this one as sort of a backup, "insurance," or whatever.

Thanks for your information. It certainly may be very helpful to me in the future, and maybe someone else will use it on this ebook. It's great to have someone, on this thread, with the knowledge that you have.

I'm attempting to convert your commands to UNIX and Mac (which is unix at heart). "dd" is built in to a mac, in a terminal window. File b.txt can be created either in a text editor, or via
cat >b.txt
[ 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 ]^d^d

and ls -a b.txt shows that it has 19 bytes in size.

Copy is cp.

But what does your /b flag do? I'm trying to translate that.

Deb

PS since I'm working with a COPY of the Nelson*Maps*.pdf file, I renamed it Maps.pdf, so that the dd command lines weren't so long! Though of course a <tab> command will autocomplete the filename anyway.
