I was using 3.15.0. I never did get to 3.16.0 or 3.16.10. Now I'm on 3.17.0 and I like it so far. The page turns are more responsive. The small highlighting I've done seems a tad better. I'm not seeing the ghosting.

I switched off pinch to zoom as I never felt it was reliable to me, plus it always misread my two finger light change swipe as a pinch. I may have to try it again with 3.17 to see if thats improved

Or do what I did. Switch off Pinch to zoom and use the reader. I've found the Aura the best device I've owned for reading. The fact that one feature is a problem never really bothered me cause I could switch it off.

Having owned Kindles and Kobo's, I'll take the Kobo every time.

Exclamation Critical Error

Aura HD: Tried to update manually (from 3.15.0 to 3.17.0) and after rebooting it crashes with a 'Critical Error' during first boot and the only way out is a factory reset. So I did a factory reset and after the devices took the around 7 hours to scan and register the content of the micro-SD card I tried again the update.
Bam, 'Critical Error' again, factory reset again. I've removed the micro-SD card this time and I'll try a third time...

Have you triple checked that you have the correct firmware version for your device? (And yes, it's probably a good idea to remove an SD card before updating, I think. How big is your card?)

So sorry to hear this and so sorry it is to late for my answer, if you, before you upgrade, copy all the content of the internal memory and memory card including the database to your computer, then after a factory reset you can copy it back, because of the database is there, it doesn't have to parse them all again..

I'm fairly sure the file is correct. The third try without the card passed the upgrade so the card's content is the likely culprit (card is 32GB with from 3 to 6GB of mostly epubs on it.)

Thanks for the kind words. Well now I'm going for a clean slate approach as I have everything in Calibre anyway. I've formatted the card, I'll repopulate it step by step and see how it goes.

At least I'm lucky in that I just finished a book yesterday evening and haven't started the next one yet.

With 3.17.0 I've read some lines about "sickel"... can you explain me :

- what is sickel ? is a programming language as python or perl or ruby ?

- Is it included directly in FW 3.17.0 ? if not, must we add it on our device (with a patch) and which new functions or improvements will we find ?

I have a couple of Minis and just installed 3.17.0 onto one of them. There are some ghosting which went on for several page flips when I marked a book as "Finished", but when I'm reading a book it has been as good as the 3.16.0.

sickel is a new watchdog program added into the newest f/w builds. It checks that the device is not hung by waiting for a regular heartbeat from nickel (the reader program), and if the heartbeat is not received, rebooting the Kobo.

Some news: All went well until I had put back the last batch of epubs from calibre. I had checked 2 or 3 times during the copying process that it went well and it did but the last time, when I had copied the last missing epubs, I had the same Critical Error like before.

Either 3.17 doesn't like one or more of my epub or it's the quantity that upsets it.
