Another idea that came to my mind . . . . why not call Amazon's/Audible's customer service anytime that we need to know what audio goes with which ebook? In my experience, it doesn't take very long to get a real person there.

Alternately, we could use chat. Dittos on it not taking very long to connect with a real person. Email, of course, would be too slow.

This approach would have the added benefit--if lots of people would do it--to get Amazon/Audible to go back (thanks, koland) to giving us the information right on the webpages. Providing live customer support is expensive (that's the reason that it's hard to get stateside customer support from our computers' manufacturers, and why sometimes it takes many minutes of waiting to reach a rep), and if costs to Amazon/Audible were to mount up for it, they might make a favorable change in the information that they disclose.

I'm a non-credit member, but I get Whispersync info (obviously, or I wouldn't be able to make the Whispersync deal posts that I do). I might not get all of it, but I sense that I do, for what that's worth.

How can you get three different answers about Whispersync? Wouldn't it be just two--1) yes, or 2) no? Do they give three different prices for the deals?

All of this is about to cause me to quit posting anymore WS deals on classics, what with the different choices that we often have with them on the narration that we get.

Not logged in = $0.00 with audible subscription. (no other pricing shown, on search or detail page). very not helpful.

logged in and have ebook and audiobook - no pricing shown. Can find non-member pricing, though, if I do a search on the ASIN. no clue what the whispersync or member price is, though. There is a link to the exact Kindle edition that I own, that is linked to the audiobook (even if it no longer qualifies for Whispersync pricing on this or any other edition).

logged in on account that doesn't own the audiobook AND does have membership - I see member price, non-member price and whispersync price. I almost always get a link to one of the linked Kindle editions. Not always the same as the book linked above.

In fact, I am currently looking at Little Women and have two different linked books, for the two accounts, and none at all shown when not logged in, on the third browser. Two different Kindle editions are shown for getting Whispersync (a free one in the account where I already own both; a 99 cent one in the account where I own neither).

Thanks for taking so much time to answer. I didn't know that it would be so involved to answer it, or I wouldn't have asked it.

What a mess. It seems that with every new thing that comes along to improve our lives, there is added another layer of complexity to our lives.

John Green's Paper Towns--Whispersync Deal for Only $4.98!

I just posted information on the "General Fiction/Literature" thread about a great Whispersync deal. It's on Paper Towns, by John Green. I'm almost certain that the current movie at the theaters in the U.S. is based upon this book. The whole deal--audiobook, ebook, and Whispersync benefits--is only $4.98!

I'm sorry that I did not have time to post complete Whispersync deal information on this thread.

Thanks, and to add to the recent chorus yes these combos are worth posting, even if this is the first one I've grabbed, at least partially. One question: do you have any idea if the WS price is an actual discount or is that the usual WS price? I bought the Kindle version (can't beat that, especially with slo-mo credits) but I want to hold off on the WS half until the next time a $10 coupon or a B4G$10 comes up.

I've "always" assumed that they are the usual price. But, at the moment, I can't think of a way to test that assumption. I'm sure that someone else in Mobilereader Land has a lot more knowledge about such things, perhaps they'll share it.

Of course, the WS deals are made up of two prices--the price of the ebook and the price of the WS stuff. With the ebook being a component of the total price, when it goes down in price, the whole deal goes down in price. What I cue in on is a drop in an ebook's price. Then, I will check to see if it offers the optional WS arrangement. If it does, and the total price ends up being an especially great deal (to my hyper-frugal way of thinking), I will consider posting it. Sometimes, even with the drop in the ebook's price, I don't consider it a good deal. Sometimes it is because the price of the ebook is still so high that the WS deal is still high, and sometimes it is because the WS deal component is so high (I quite often see the price of $12.95. I'm sorry, but I do not pay that much for an audiobook, even with the ebook thrown in and the modest (in my opinion) benefit of syncing being a part of the deal) that no matter how cheap the ebook gets, it's still going to be too expensive to my sensibilities.

Well, the above wasn't strongly connected with your question, and I'm sure that it was more than you wanted to know.

Thanks for your encouragement about posting the WS deals.

Oh, about holding off on buying the WS component after you've already bought the ebook . . . . someone months ago mentioned that the price of that part can change--up or down--and, too, Amazon and/or the publisher can take the WS part away, for whatever reason. Sometimes, after buying the ebook, I will hold off from buying the WS part for one reason or another, but I'm always reminded of those possibilities and know that I'm taking a chance.

I checked the Wayback Machine and sampled a few dates going back as far as October 16th 2013. Every date I checked had the same WSfV price of $3.99

The WSfV prices do change sometimes, but this one seems to have been pretty steady over time.

Great idea. Thanks for trying it, and sharing the results.

I'm glad that you used the "Wayback" Machine and not Peabody & Sherman's "WABAC" machine on the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. Ya might not have gotten the right results. ha.

These are the usual WS prices. For the B4G$10, I usually get around 4 or 5 audiobooks via WS.

Thanks to you both. I've occasionally (not often) run into them dropping the price on the WS deal at the same time as the Kindle book for some promotions. One in particular I remember was "The DaVinci Code." Since I assumed this was a promo for the upcoming movie I was worried it might be similar.

Audible's Daily Deal -- exp 26 Jun
Quote:
"Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!" "X marks the spot!" Long John Silver with his parrot on his arm! Treasure Island, the 1883 masterpiece by the great Scot Robert Louis Stevenson, set the course for all-things-pirate to come. Its influence is inestimable.

This story of buccaneers seeking buried treasure on an island off the coast of Mexico is told through the eyes of Jim Hawkins, a teenager who gets mixed up in the pirate crowd. Hawkins is brought to life in this audiobook by the expert Neil Hunt, whose British tenor playfully rises and falls with the churn of the waves and the mayhem wrought by Billy Bones, Ben Gunn, and other immortal characters of this swashbuckling epic.

Edited to reflect sale price of $2.95. It's $0.99 if you own the free Kindle companion.
