Amazon Prime and Hermes UK

Why is Amazon using Hermes UK for Prime orders? Hermes just botched a prime delivery date and there seems to be no way to know when they will actually get the item sent. If you call Hermes they tell you to contact the shipper and get the shipper to contact them. That is unacceptable. It took until just after 5pm to be notified that the shipment was not going to be delivered when it was supposed to be.

Technically your contract's with Amazon and not Hermes. And Hermes contract is with Amazon that's why Hermes doesn't have to deal with you. Call Amazon and kick up a fuss and see what happens. Talking to the delivery companies themselves is pretty futile, your not their customer Amazon is.

In the US, I can call any shipper and ask about the package as long as I have the tracking number. With the tracking number you can ask where the package is and about delivery time.

Why cannot this be done in the UK?

Some of the uk delivery companies just plain suck and in a situation like yours they'll just pass the buck and tell you to take it up with the supplier.

The better ones will help out as much as possible but it all depends on the company and who you get on the end of the phone.

The best you'll get is an apology from Amazon and maybe a voucher or the delivery charge refunded. It's always worth complaining however since if they get enough complaints they'll switch to a different company.

I've read of issues with Hermes and Yodel. DPD is a good one from what I've read. Those are the only UK shippers I've read about.

This is also the first time I've had Amazon botch a delivery.
