On my Afterglow 2 the Settings screen was unusable. I haven't yet tried my wife's Energy Pro, but I imagine it will behave as you both have described.

I'm curious if the Afterglow looked ok when before you condensed the settings. You had the same look in settings then. I seem to remember when you first had the dark background with white letters you did it to make it easier to see on eink devices and it worked quite well.

You are correct, before the changes it worked.

Why it stopped working when I redid (condensed) the settings is a journey into the weirdnesses of Android. There are two kinds of preference category, one tappable and the other not. In the previous preferences implementation I used the untappable category as the outermost block with a tappable category embedded inside it. During the condensing project I discovered that not being able to tap the heading made it hard to use when the descriptions were short, and various spacing artifacts caused by the embedding made for very large untappable white space blocks in some cases. To fix this I changed to using the tappable category everywhere, which eliminated both problems. Unfortunately, I then discovered that it cannot be styled and it cannot be subclassed, so I was unable to fine-tune the appearance. This didn't matter until I tried it on the Afterglow.

FWIW: I think the new appearance satisfies the goals as well as the previous one did.

• The preferences remain compact, with tappable titles and summaries.
• It is as easy, or perhaps easier, to rapidly visually separate and find the preferences.
• It works on all the devices I have
• And as a bonus, the reduced visual contrast is (for me) more attractive.

Here are half-size screen captures from the devices I own. Note that the Energy Pro is a variant of the Boyue T62+ (carta screen). It might not be easily visible, but on non-e-ink devices the general background is a light grey but the background of a preference is white.

Just tried the Cloud Connect and it works fine on my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2024 Edition.
Except.... I have a user defined field called "Genre", which works just fine on CC, but every time I try to select it to add books I get the message that "Unfortunately, CC has stopped" and I'm returned to the main list of categories.

Any chance that this happens only after a search, either long-press or "standard"? I can repeat that but I can't repeat any other crash.

Oh, I think he added me to beta before, but still dont see new updates from playstore. Probably it was for betta (which is timed for July 1), not alpha?

You are correct the cloud feature is currently going through alpha testing.

I remembered having added someone who wanted to be in both groups to the beta group but not the alpha group. I was lazy. I looked through the messages when we started this cycle but I missed yours.

In any event, I just added you to the alpha group.

Hi, I've obtained the last version and I have the same problem than at OneSky. There are some texts (at the main settings) that are not included at the tool, so they can't be translated. Not the texts related to cloud, but other entries. I'll try to get a picture at home.

There are lots of non-cloud strings that I have added. Some examples are the explanatory dialogs and many of the settings descriptions. I haven't pushed them to OneSky because it is hard to do that without sending the cloud strings as well.

However, I think things have stabilized to the point where I can push them all. I will do it this afternoon.

I've seen them, thank you, and I've already begun to translate them. It's difficult to do any hard work with almost 40ºC.
