How well can I modify ePub 3 files?

I know that Calibre doesn't support ePub 3 files, because of that I always modify them by hand. But how well can I use plugins like Modify ePub, and Calibre's built-in tools like polishing and conversation tools? |

Its up to the 'owners' of optional PI's like Modify to develop EPUB3 versions of the plugins. BR

What ePub 3 specific feature do you plan on using? If you don't plan on using ePub 3 specific features, then creating ePub 3 is a waste of time and you'd be better off sticking to ePub 2.

I am not creating ePub 3 books, some of the books I bought are in ePub 3 format. If you buy books from Kobo, you probably have access to them too. Remember all those books we couldn't download as Adobo DRM from Kobobooks? They are all (at least the ones I have) available as ePub 3 files now. I use Modify ePub and polishing tools to, well, polish the ePub without getting into the code. I also convert to Kobo and Kindle formats sometimes. But I am directly modifing the code for now for ePub 3 books. I haven't seen any ePub 3 books from the other two (Google Play and some local store) ePub stores I use, but I believe it is only a matter of time now. ePub 3 is beginning to get more and more supported. I dont know about modify epub, but Polishing should work fine with epub 3, if it does not you can always restore the original file after polishing, and let me know what the problem was. EDIT: The only problem I know about is that updating metadata will not update the epub 3 specific metadata fields, which practically speaking, means the epub 3 series field. My old RMSDK barfs (aborts) when it finds odd stuff (EPUB3?) in the book. Both the Calibre Editor and Flightcrew find nothing to gripe about (and my eyeballs see nothing either) Last edited by theducks; 05-14-2015 at 03:00 PM. Reason: swap RM

If your device CAN display books with Adobe DRM, you have it. Astak, Sony, Nook, Kobo ...

How well can Calibre convert ePub 3 files?

Related question: I'm seeing more and more epub3 among the books I buy. How important is it to manually strip out the epub3 stuff before I convert it with Calibre? I've been doing it with all my epub3s, but wondering if it's truly necessary. I'm generally going from epub3 to dual-mobi or azw3. Thx!
