I liked the H2O out of the box, the larger screen was my main draw, the better res than the rest of the market (at the time) was another, waterproofing was a nice add on but wasn't a major draw.

The updates to firmware and the patches and other hacks here have basically given me all the functionality I want (easier screensaver switching would be nice, but the random option via a patch isn't bad).

Even with the discovery of the Glo HD, I'd still go for an H2O, the 35 DPI bump in screen res that the Glo HD boasts over the H2O doesn't, in my opinion, out weigh the increased real estate of the H2O.

The reviews seem to be lacking a little common sense.

PC Mag:

But it still feels bulky compared with the Kindle Paperwhite, which is a little thinner and weighs nearly an ounce less.
Maybe because the H2O is larger than the Paperwhite!

PC Advisor:

The ability to add storage isn’t really the benefit here, since the 4GB of internal memory should be more than enough.
Not if you use PDFs and download manga to the reader.

The 32" HDTV in the basement has higher DPI than the 50" HDTV in the living room -- both are 1920x1080 so the smaller screen has higher DPI. All else being equal, which one would you prefer to view your favourite programs on?

It depends whether I have to hold it in my hands for a few hours whilst I'm watching it

Images are one thing, most of what I read on my H2O is pure text, and while high res is of course sharper text, I find the text on the H2O to be very crisp. The Glo HD would increase page turns, and potentially lacks an SD card slot. Not a huge issue, but I'd rather have the slot and not need it than not have it and need it.

I wont deny the Glo HD is nice, especially for more image heavy reading, but if given the choice between the H2O and the Glo HD as they are right now, I'd still go with my H2O.

I know that my choice of book to read back when I read physical books wasn't dependant on which one weighed a couple of ounces less than the other.

Food for thought

Hmmm... I'm not sure if the difference in weight between the hardcover and the paperback ever influenced my buying decisions.

I find the H2O very easy to hold.

Well then, you're lucky not to have issues with pain in your hands and wrists. For some people, the difference in weight between the hardcover and paperback influenced buying decisions a LOT.

There is a major weight difference between a hardcover book and a paperback book. The weight difference between a Glo HD and H2O is only 53g (.116845 pounds). The Glo HD weights 180g (.396832 pounds) and the H2O weight 233g (.513677 pounds).

Both devices weight less (without a case) than most paperback books. And with the new trend of these larger paperback books, both devices can end up weighing less than a lot of paperback books even with a case (depending on the case).

I completely agree with you, Jon. I was commenting on the rather snide implication by DNSB that weight doesn't matter at all, and people shouldn't discuss it.

What I do personally with heavy books (and some of my Egyptology books - the "coffee table" variety - are ridiculously heavy!) is to read them on my lap with the book supported by a cushion. That works well for me.

I'm such a weakling that that's how I usually read my H2O.

A stand would do. There is one case for the H2O that also can be used as a stand.

I do use a stand when I'm eating. These are cheap and work well on a table or a tray. They're also very light and fold up nicely for carrying --
