Don't know what you guys were expecting.

The new fanless MacBook though. Might just ditch my iPad for that.

The show started at 10am my time and I turned on CNET's coverage at 11:40am; just in time to learn about the all new Apple metals used for the watches. The event ended shortly after that.

I wanted to see the whole thing, but had to go out for a bit. My main interest was the watch. I was checking it out for a family member who was interested. I'm going to recommend that they get the Pebble instead. Quite a bit cheaper while still providing the basic info they were interested in.

Apple is saying that the watch's battery will last 18 hours. But, that's a lie. Real world use will find the watches have very poor battery life. Not even close to 18 hours. It needs a solar charger so you don't have an Apple watch that all it does is show you the time. When the battery gets low enough, it switches to time mode and that's it until it's charged enough.

We've learned enough from Apple that it's never a good idea to buy the 1st gen of anything they release because there is always going to be something majorly wrong with it. In this case, it's the battery. It just is not good enough.

Just sayin.
The three models are quoted as starting at $350, $550, and $10,000 over at CNET:

http://www.cnet.com/news/with-apple-...p-to-the-hype/

Quote:
Though the watch made its debut in September 2014, customers had few details about the gadget until today. Prices for the smartwatch, which works only with the iPhone 5 and new models of Apple's smartphone, start at $349 (£299) for the smaller version of the aluminum "Sport" model. A slightly larger Apple Watch Sport is $399. The mid-tier watch, called Apple Watch, will sell from $549 to $1,099, and the 18-karat gold Apple Watch Edition starts at $10,000. All three models will be available in nine countries, including the US and the UK, on April 24.
Also:
http://www.cnet.com/news/apple-watch-starts-at-349/

Quote:
The 18-karat gold version of the watch starts at $10,000. The most expensive version of the watch on Apple's website is $17,000.

The midtier version, made of stainless steel, will be $549 to $1,049 for the smaller watch, depending on the type of band. For the larger size, the price is $599 to $1,099.

The starting price for the smaller basic version, made of aluminum, is $349. The larger sibling is $399.
I assume the $17K version comes with a radioisotope atomic battery for extended battery life.

Was there ever any doubt that you were not going to recommend the Apple Watch?

Basically, if you have an iPhone, then it's worth looking at the apple watch. Since the Apple watch requires an iPhone, then if you don't have an iPhone, it's probably not worthwhile.

Frankly, I suspect that someone who has to ask someone else to recommend a smart watch, probably shouldn't get one at this time, unless they need it for a specific task (heart rate monitor or some such thing).

Eh, the MacBook Air is virtually silent and, other than the screen, has way better specs. Not to mention the fact that, until type-c gains some traction, you'll need adapters to plug anything in.

If it had a lower price and GPS, Apple may have won out.

They have an iPhone (that I bought and gifted).

Then the same can be said for any technology.

You could have time-shifted the event on the new Betamax, you know, so that you could watch it at a later time. I understand this is done quite frequently nowadays.
