Have you made any progress on this? I did find a post regarding creating KUAL menus and am now able to use both myts and mplayer via KUAL. This is of course less convenient that using launchpad, but it does work.
Now that I have myts access to a terminal session on my K3 I might be able to pull some more information for you. I guess I could even attempt to initiate an install of launchpad from there, if you can provide manual directions, to see if any sort of error message comes out that helps. Dave |

Hello Gentlemen,
I recently adquired an used kindle 3 with Wi-Fi and 3G capabilities, The serial number starts with B006 A0A0 and the version is 3.4.1 Yesterday I tried to install the kindle calculator so I jailbreaked my device but then I had the exact same problem you described,. When trying to update my kindle after copying the .bin file in the root directory, the "Update your kindle" option was grey. I tried with the 3 diferent files for the Kindle 3 in the lpad-pkg-001c.zip but neither worked. Does someone have any suggestions please? Thank you. Last edited by Roto01; 02-12-2015 at 01:18 AM. |

You might want to see if you can install KUAL on your device as I did on mine. I found that I was able to install myts and mplayer and create menu entries to use them from KUAL, you might be able to do the same with the calculator. This is definitely less convenient than using launchpad, but it might provide an acceptable work-around until the problem can be located and addressed.

I have no clue about the default FW behavior, since 3.4.1 really shouldn't have changed anything on that front, but concerning MRPI, that was a stupid oversight of my part. It'll be fixed in MRPI 1.5, which will be released later tonight

Now I can install KUAL, then MRPI, then any other hacks, that don't work on 3.4.1?

@dhdurgee/@oiodj: Yup! MRPI 1.5.N should now work correctly on those devices
![]() Too lazy/short on time to figure out why the proper OTA updater sometimes falls on its ass on 3.4.1, but MRPI should be good, at least ![]() |

Downloaded and installed it and was then able to install launchpad with it. Thanks for your work on this.

In each case, use the most recent release attached to the first post of their descriptive thread (**always**). In each case, read and follow the directions. - - - - - It is not an 'unconventional' way to install packages, it is the most recently developed way. |

What I did was to install KUAL and the MR Package Installer as per the KUAL thread here:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=203326 Once KUAL was functional I then copied the launchpad installer to the mrpackages directory, unplugged my K3, opened KUAL and launched the MR Package Installer. The installer took it from there and installed launchpad for me. As long as KUAL remains functional it appears that we can use the MR Package Installer to install the jailbreak and other packages even with the OTA updater malfunctioning. Dave |
