GRRR... The things people will do..
Before Christmas my wife went into a local drug store and among other things purchased a $250 pre-paid Visa card. (Not really sure WHY she did it but that's immaterial). Today she went to use the card as part of the payment for an iPad and we had great trouble with the store being able to use it. Eventually we gave up, and while she was paying, I went to verify the balance on the card. I got through to the IVR, keyed in the card # and expiry date, and was then stymied when it asked for the CVV2 code from the back of the card; there was no visible code. It looked like there might have been one, but it had been scratched off. I had a sinking feeling. On getting home I decided to try again, and found there was no option on the IVR to speak to an attendant, so I decided to try the "Report lost card" option. Lo and behold, we got a human being who was willing to help; giving her the number confirmed my bad feelings; the card only had about $2.00 left on it. She was prepared to give us a list of all the transactions done on that card; sure enough not one of the transactions was recognized by us. Now I have to send a fax / letter to them officially disputing them, and they in turn will flag them as fraudulent transactions. Time for me to head back to the store and take a look at some of the cards on the displays there. I'm convinced that the CVV code should be hidden on the back of the card. I plan to chat with the cashiers on duty and suggest that in future they might want to verify that the CVV code is still hidden when the cards are sold. I think what happened is someone revealed the CVV code, recorded all the info from the card and then simply called in to check the balance until the card was activated. |

Wrestling is indeed scripted but it's still dangerous. I've heard it said that professional wrestlers retire with a greater injury rate than U.S. football players. That's saying something. |

Could be. I've seen no actual comparative numbers.

The Vent and Rant Thread
Seems what I heard was right. Here's an article that states pro wrestlers run a 20% greater risk of early death as compared to professional football players.

Me too.
Here's a list compiled by the Olympic committee and presented by Scientific American on injury numbers for its events. My coach located this list to show that Fencing was safer than ping pong... but it also shows baseball having more injuries than wrestling. ![]() Stitchawl |

Anyway, I had finally managed to drift off right before my last post, when what to my wondering ears should appear but motorcycles 2 of them, certainly racing. On the mainland. Hearing anything here is very unusual. Hearing anything this up close and personal is fairly bizarre. I guess it's a matter of wind, or not, various pressures and so on. Very annoying. Anyway, I now have to pee and Arwen is sound sleep between my legs.
Le sigh |
