Our news here is certainly full of the potential doom and gloom. My daughter just got in from pearl harbor and they are headed for upstate New York for the next posting. They're taking every advantage possible of the allotted travel time and will be on the road for close to a month. I'm glad they are missing this hit, but with the way the northeast has been taking hits so far, they are not very far out of the danger zone. When I found out where they were being stationed, I bought them each a pair of snowshoes. They're both avid snow sports people and also teach skiing and snowboarding. Yeah, it's kind of a family thing. We're all addicted to that white powdery substance

Having googled "seahawks", I now know they have something to do with sports. That done, I will return to my regularly scheduled blissful ignorance any minute now.

Sports is fun.

Why anyone cares how well other people can play, I will never understand.

Oh this is our annual over the top sports bonanza. The Oscars of American football if you will. If anyone wants to see how bad it is, try visiting king5.com, our local NBC channel. If that's all one looked at, you could begin to believe all other news had come to a screeching halt.

To make matters worse, our weekly office meeting is being held in a local restaurant and we're all to wear Seahawks garb. I don't own any. We've never met at a restaurant

Sadly, that IS considered normal here. (I'm in town for a couple of days.)

I know, disgusting but true. Frankly, there are two sports I care ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about - Football of all types, and men's basketball of all types. All others I can pretend to care about. And Curling I can watch any time. We're even planning on traveling to the US next year to go to a curling bonspiel in Vegas. I hate Vegas, but it will be a good excuse to get out of town for a break.

Well, I can care about them so long as I am the one doing the playing. What I don't get is why anyone cares about watching someone else play. Does it improve your own game, I ask? Does it in fact have any significance other than as a handy source of random depression?
Of course not, but it is "a guy thing" (except when it's a girl thing) so it is supposed to be magically understood.

I cannot say being a guy has helped me understand...

Nevertheless, for some peope it is literally all they can talk about. All freaking day. And people wonder why I prefer books.

Normal is not necessarily common.

I could watch professional bass fishing all day -- and after about 10 minutes I usually feel that I have!

Not much of a sports fan, myself.

I will admit I do follow the Broncos especially when they are having a winning season but I'm not rabid about it. One of the sports channels has a program where they replay games from YEARS! ago. I've seen several people glued to it.
I will watch rodeo, skiing and sometimes climbing. I've participated/competed in all of them. I have a hard time thinking of a competitive sport though. In fact all of my training emphasizes team work. Awhile back they started showing competition free climbs Without a rope. I refuse to watch those, picked up too many bodies and parts

I wish boxing was fake. Two idiots actually hitting each other till they are knocked out then repeating this again and again for years and years throughout their career until they end up with neurological damage like Cassius Clay and his uncontrollable shaking.

Personally I love watching sport. Not American Football - 3 hours to put all the protective gear on, then 10 seconds bouncing off each other, then a little break...and repeat, ad nauseum.

Basketball too I don't get. Any sport where you need to be unfeasibly tall to participate belongs in a freak show.

Baseball, I do like though - it's rounders with a lot of statistics attached!

The best sports are, of course, football (that's the one the uneducated call soccer), cricket (the one that goes on forever and usually ends in a draw) and rugby union (a bit like American football except nobody feels the need to dress up like the Michelin man).
