Darn, would have read that one. But it's a penny plus shipping for physical copies so I think I'll do that this time.

Why Trust Jesus?: An Honest Look at Doubts, Plans, Hurts, Desires, Gripes, Questions, and Pleasures by David Sterrett is free at Christianbook, Kobo and Amazon.

I hope this lasts longer than the last one!

If you mean the Witherington title that I posted a couple of days ago, I do regret that didn't find it sooner. Going back and checking, however, you are right, the markdown didn't last very long--about 1 1/2 days or so.

The good news is that this was the third time in about a month that the price of the ebook dropped to $0.99 (for some reason, I hadn't seen it the prior times). Maybe the "powers that be" who determine such things will do another markdown of this ebook before very long. I'll try to check the price daily for a while.

Understanding World Religions:Was $25.98; Now $3.99 (85% Markdown). Five-Star Rating.

I have not read any of this book. However, it almost certainly presents the subject from a "Christian" perspective, because of the fact that Zondervan is the publisher. It has the "feel" of being a textbook--whether or not it is intended to be, or is used as, a textbook anywhere, I do not know.

Understanding World Religions: An Interdisciplinary Approach. By Irving Hexham. Rated 5 stars, from 11 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $39.99; digital regular price $25.98; Kindle price now $3.99. Zondervan/HarperCollins Publishing, publisher. 512 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Understanding-...inary+Approach.

Book Description
Globalization and high-speed communication put twenty-first century people in contact with adherents to a wide variety of world religions, but usually, valuable knowledge of these other traditions is limited at best. On the one hand, religious stereotypes abound, hampering a serious exploration of unfamiliar philosophies and practices. On the other hand, the popular idea that all religions lead to the same God or the same moral life fails to account for the distinctive origins and radically different teachings found across the world’s many religions. Understanding World Religions presents religion as a complex and intriguing matrix of history, philosophy, culture, beliefs, and practices. Hexham believes that a certain degree of objectivity and critique is inherent in the study of religion, and he guides readers in responsible ways of carrying this out. Of particular importance is Hexham’s decision to explore African religions, which have frequently been absent from major religion texts. He surveys these in addition to varieties of Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

It's Back! Ben Witherington's What Have They Done with Jesus?, for 99 Cents.

UPDATE: I just checked the price again. It's back up to $9.78. The markdown could not have lasted long--I checked the price about 24 hours ago and it was $9.78 then. Sorry. I'll keep monitoring the book's webpage and, hopefully, if there's another markdown I'll catch it sooner than I have the last two times (counting this one).

UPDATE #2: You might be interested in reading the tirade that I just posted on the "Non-Fiction" thread.

What Have They Done with Jesus? By Ben Witherington III. Print list price $14.95; digital regular price $9.78; Kindle price now $0.99. Rated 4 1/2 stars from 17 reviews at the present moment. 354 pages. HarperCollins e-books, publisher. http://www.amazon.com/What-Have-They...+with+Jesus%3F.

Book Description
Strange theories about Jesus seem to ooze from our culture with increasing regularity. Ben Witherington, one of the top Jesus scholars, will have none of it. There were no secret Gnostic teachings in the first century. With leading scholars and popular purveyors of bad history in his crosshairs, Witherington reveals what we can—and cannot—claim to know about the real Jesus. The Bible, not outside sources, is still the most trustworthy historical record we have today.

Utilizing a fresh "personality profile" approach, Witherington highlights core Christian claims by investigating the major figures in Jesus’s inner circle of followers: Mary the mother of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, Thomas, Peter, James the brother of Jesus, Paul, and the mysterious "beloved disciple." In each chapter Witherington satisfies our curiosities and answers the full range of questions about these key figures and what each of them can teach us about the historical Jesus.
What Have They Done with Jesus? is a vigorous defense of traditional Christianity that offers a compelling portrait of Jesus’s core message according to those who knew him best.

Not such a disaster--more and more I am beginning to see some real advantages of dead-tree books over ebooks. Sometimes (to the publishers' glee) I buy both formats of a particular title.

$4 is cheap! Where did you get it for that?

Yeah, I still prefer physical by far; but am trying to switch over to digital mainly for space.

On Amazon. Still several used copies for a few pennies, and the usual $3.99 shipping.

Ah . . . used. I didn't think of that--and I owned and operated two Internet-only used book businesses in the past!

Ideally, I would like to own both formats. But, like you, space is a consideration--for me, a major consideration. In fact, is there anyone out there who would like to buy about 20,000 (no, I'm not exaggerating. ) volumes of used books?

Here are three freebies for signing up for email lists.

A Harmony of the Gospels in the International Standard Version edited by William P. Welty is available from the ISV website. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, sign up for the newsletter, check your email, confirm your subscription, check your email again and click the link to download a PDF of the book. It's nicely formatted and has Greek and English on facing pages. If you balk at using a PDF, I'd just like to say that I have yet to find a usable synopsis/harmony of the gospels (free or for sale) in any reflowable format. Displaying multiple columns of text just doesn't lend itself to epub or mobi and I've been using this Google scan (after cleaning it up a little).

Explore the Bible Commentary: Romans by Eli Landrum in exchange for your email address at this Lifeway page (Lifeway is the retail arm of B&H Publishing). There's a check box that can be unchecked, presumably if you don't actually want to preview the series or whatever (I'm sort of unclear on what the sign-up is actually for). Filling in an email address and a "ministry role" takes you to links for a PDF and a zipped epub. There's no selection in the "ministry role" box for "just some guy", so now I'm Pastor Difflugia in Lifeway's marketing database.

The Jewish Publication Society has a nicely done PDF of the 1917 edition of the JPS Tanakh. The PDF isn't just a scan of an old paper edition, but has been digitally typeset and includes translation notes and Hebrew headings. Sign up for the newsletter and you'll get a link in your email.

Awesome finds, thanks.

Regarding William Lane Craig's book, drat! I had purchased the Kindle for $3.74 a couple of years ago. But I used this opportunity to add a free ePub.

Our dear friends (tongue-in-cheek) at Kobo have the price at $13.59 for some reason, although David C. Cook has a link to them. Maybe they didn't get the memo. ha

I think they link everyone that sells the book and the sellers don't always mark them down (I've noticed that particularly with Kobo).
