I've been reading most of this thread, and many others, this morn, and still am having issues downgrading my FW to 5.4. My Paperwhite is brand new, 5.6.1.0.2.
I have never performed a jailbreak on any device, so I realize I am a bit behind the curve; however, I usually can figure things out like this. I've followed NiLuJe's advice on how to downgrade, but I'm starting to think that my FW is perhaps too new? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Could someone also weigh in on the correct order of events? I've tried all kinds of combinations. Some general inquiries: - am I to apply the downgrade on it's own prior to installing the KUAL or MKK, etc? I've tried doing it on its own and after the others are installed. - I've waited 20 minutes after transferring the files to my kindle before hard-rebooting the device, several times. |

@workingmemory: Your suspicions are correct: if you're starting from FW 5.6.x, you're screwed, unless you're willing to open it up to get serial access.

Fack. Thanks for the response, this site is quite impressive.
Do you think that in the somewhat near future I can expect to see a jailbreak for 5.6.x? My main contention with the device is that reading PDFs is nightmarish. I use it primarily for textbooks and research articles that typically have three columns. I would like to hope/think that Amazon would update a better way to navigate PDFs on the Paperwhite. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=237083 In this case, try the master prefix index under either hardware :: serial port or your device :: serial port Similar for finding teardown information. Last edited by knc1; 01-16-2015 at 07:52 AM. |

Kindle jailbreak after update
Hi,
I have a kindle paperwhite 2, serial starts with 90D4. I have had it less than a year, and I last did a jailbreak on it with kindle jailbreak 1.10.N (according to the file I still have from when I did the jailbreak.) My kindle somehow automatically installed an update, and it is now running 5.6.1.0.2. I didn't read the hundreds of pages here, but on the last page someone said it wasn't possible to jailbreak the 5.6.1.0.2 without opening up the kindle. Is this the case even if my kindle was previously jailbroken? I don't do much with the jailbreak, just a screensaver hack, but I really liked it and was hoping to do more later. Am I out of luck? I found an FGA at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=237083 that says you are out of luck unless you were previously jailbroken. I was previously jailbroken, but if that only matters if you installed some special jailbreak app or something, I didn't do any of that. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks. @magic_man185:
Read the first post in this thread (especially the section- EVEN MORE IMPORTANT notice regarding FW >= 5.6.0:) and follow the link for what to do if previous JB and got OTA firmware update. Also pay attention to the comments about the new way to install packages (MRInstaller extention for KUAL). Good luck! ![]() Welcome to the forum! |
