Kindle problems

I posted this in the welcome thread and was advised to post it here....

Hello all. I am new to the Kindle Voyage having had the original Kindle for several years...All in all I am fairly happy with the voyage with the exception that periodically when turning a page it jumps a chapter or two...I do not use the side buttons for page turning but use swiping as that's what I am used too..

This sounds like "user error". Could you perhaps be inadvertently bringing up the "browse" screen? I can honestly think of no way that swiping could cause the effect that you describe, and we've seen no other reports of this, which we surely would have if it has been some kind of firmware bug.

Silly question, but does the Voyage maybe got the swipe up and down of the Kindle Touch back to change chapters?

Nope - just tried it. It does nothing. Good suggestion, though

However, a swipe up from the bottom of the screen brings up the "browser" screen allowing you to rapidly page through the book.

On the PW2, the bottom "panel" of that screen has arrows that change to the previous & next chapters

Yes, that's what I was referring when I suggested that perhaps the original poster is bringing up that screen accidentally.

I was playing with the New Basic Touch in Staples it did the same thing suddenly flipped several pages! Could it be it has the same swipe thingy & I hit it?

I yet to play with the Voyage... Best Buy keeps saying they going to get well they did had 1 in stock But no display

Not paying $200 til I get to play with it 1st

The new Basic Touch has an IR touch screen. They are known to act a bit erratically under certain lighting conditions, e.g. bright, flickering sunlight when riding the bus and very bright fluorescent lighting. Insects can also turn the page when they land on your screen

Harry, what is the purpose of that browser that comes up when you swipe up? I always hesitate from messing with something like that or a footnote since it seems like it can mess up my furthest last page read point.

Reminds me of a story I heard about a TV when I was on a college field trip to American TV repair. The TV kept on changing channels by itself. The owner brought it in for repair and it still did it. Finally they found the trouble. It was summer and his screen door had a hole. Flies would come in, buzz round and land on the number pad. It was set so sensitive that a fly landing on it could change the channel.

I use this feature all the time. From the manual:

Press, hold, and drag the circle forward or back, or tap on the progress bar to preview a new page or location in the book. Use the arrows or swipe within the preview pane to flip through your book page-by-page. Navigation tips:
• To skim through chapters, tap the arrows.
• To return to your original location, tap the X on the preview pane.
• To go to the selected location, tap the page you are previewing
