That's strange. I tried both transferring the You Tube app from my Samsung and downloading directly from Google Play and neither one would open. It said it installed but it would not open. When I tap on it nothing happens.

I think they like them, though they still use their Nooks a lot (those have Google Play).

My oldest opened hers first, and my youngest said, "You got her a Kindle Fire?" all insulted sounding. I thought it was funny.

They were very excited! They love having both a Nook HD and a Kindle Fire. I'm glad I decided to get one for each, instead of making them share.

And anyway, these Fires had better last 2 years. I'm not getting them new ones every year!

It is Amazon's You Tube app. The one from Google Play won't work. As long as it let's me sign in etc. I will be fine with it.

So, I've puttered around with my Fire over the last two weeks, and I have to say I'm underwhelmed.

#1. The menu bar is practically off of the side of the screen and at times difficult to get to depending on which app is open.

#2 The GoodRead app is not only absolutely useless in its current state but glitchy.

#3 The interface is not intuitive. I find myself going in circles at times, trying to find certain things.

Other than a pretty screen it hasn't shown me that it has a lot to offer.

I am really disappointed.

#1. You mean the little on-screen controls (the "soft buttons") that are always visible (except when in Fullscreen mode) either at the bottom or the side, depending on the orientation? The bar is a little weirdly far to the side when you are in landscape orientation, that is true, but you will probably get used to it.

#2. I don't like the Goodreads app either... on any platform... but it isn't glitchy for me...

#3. The Fire OS interface is a content forward (irregardless of what the content happens to be, book, video, album, even apps are presented as "content", somewhat unlike the way that iOS and Android do it) rather than files/folders/apps forward interface. So that can take some getting used to at first. Eventually, even with the most confused and esoteric interfaces you will largely adapt to it and get around as efficiently as possible.

In the end, if you don't like it you don't like it. You could try an iPad, Android tablet, or Windows tablet.
