What belongs in the <title> window?
If I open an html file and put the book title in toward the top, then split the book into sections and chapters, that same title is duplicated in every file.
I am told, however, that if I use the TOC tool to Create Html Table of Contents, then that file will be headed <title>Contents</title>. Is this just a minor inconsistency, or should I be giving a descriptive title to every file? |

I don't put anything in there (or worry about what might already be there). The title tags need to be present, but there doesn't have to be any content between them. I know of no reading systems that use/display the <title></title> content in any way.
I use the file's name (Book Browser) for meaningful description. |

The HTML TOC (and AFAIK, no other book viewers) makes no use of <Title>.
The HTML TOC uses the NCX 100% to make an 'Inline TOC' I find the use of author_title_bookid_section type naming ![]() The container (EPUB) is the primary naming. The stuff inside should never become fully detached, so why the need for the full name? In most cases, the filename is only needed to help the USER keep things in order. section001 thru n (the default for the bulk rename tool) is enough to get the job done. |

Agreed. I tend to use chapxxx.html or fmatter.html or about.html or ded.html for my filenames. But that's so if my diddling around ever breaks my OPF (and Sigil guesses at rebuilding it), I can easily rearrange them properly in the Book Browser.
