I posted a list of book-related apps that were NOT in the appstore.

There's a Windows Forum in the eBook Readers section. Go ahead and start one.

Yes, that's why I was plenty sick of it and got the Fire phone.

It does have a nice calculator.

Once I updated from 8.0 to 8.1, the battery life seemed drastically reduced.

I switched numbers and activated the Windows phone for my daughter on 12/05, but now it's totally dropped AT&T. So I need to make a call. Maybe I can get the money back. It's not like she used it more than twice.

Discovered this cheap way to use that Lumia 520 as a phone. Pure Talk has a $5/month plan for 80 minutes; and higher priced plans that have rollover minutes and data. You get a free SIM card and 150 minutes when you sign up. Since AT&T coverage is not so good in the mountains where I live, I could only use the "phone" when traveling; but I really got it as a media player to run on wifi.

For these no-contract phones, are there any companies that sell minutes that never expire? IOW, I walk into Target and buy a 50 minute phone card for my phone with minutes that never expire.

I don't think so. Although Tracfone minutes last a LONG time, as long as the "service date" lasts.

That seems like a good deal. Are the Nokia Lumina 520's unlocked?

Well, mine is locked, and AT&T doesn't want to unlock it because I just put this number on it and they say you have to wait 6 months. Drat.

You don't need to unlock the phone to use it with Straight Talk or other services that buy from AT&T. Just swap the SIM Card out and change the APN settings.

Ah yes which is why you are stuck with Verizon CDMA phones. I was that way when I lived in Eastern Tennessee. And Monkey those are not hills. The Blue Ridge are Mountains. Just try to climb one. I use to live in Boone!

AT&T is spotty here once you leave the city and head anywhere. Verizon still dominates the area due to their Alltel buy out.

Just so everyone knows there is no Amazon Music app for Windows phones. There is Spotify, Tune In, Slacker, Pandora and MixRadio. Oh Windows phones do not work on WMA audiobooks either. Still scratching my head on that ones. There is a Overdrive app for MP3 books and an Audible app.

Out west, we have mountains. Back east, you have hills.

As media players, these phones will have limited functionality.

In East Tennessee myself, US Cellular is also an option and their coverage is nearly as good as Verizon's now. They've really expanded their 4G coverage this past year too. AT&T has horrible coverage, even in town at the base of a mountain and right in line of sight of a tower. It should get insanely good coverage, and does for everything but AT&T. I don't think they even try any more.
