Not sure what the Echo has to do with ebooks, but I just noticed this thread, so I figured I'd chime in.
The Echo was one of my wife's holiday presents this year.
We've had it for a few weeks now. She keeps it on her bedside table.
I think it's a neat piece of hardware with a lot of potential.
At $99, we decided we could risk being early adopters, with the only risk being we end up with a $99 voice controlled Bluetooth speaker.
The shopping list feature works remarkably well, and I made a suggestion to the folks who make the Paprika recipe/grocery manager app that they integrate their grocery list feature with Echo. Hope that comes about.

It has nothing to do with ebooks; it does audiobooks. We're hoping Amazon adds Audible and OverDrive; and opens it up to developers. It has the potential to be a fantastic audiobook player.

Sounds like you're about to get an invite. All I get is a thanks for requesting an invitation. I requested the invitation pretty late (as in a few days later) so I would honestly be surprised if I get one. Good luck Monday.
