I suggest you update to 3.12.0 and try again. I'm not saying it will work or not, but since that's the firmware that most of us will be on, it's more useful for the developers.

Hm, I don't think an update of the firmware would help....
You're sure that nothing is left from your edit of the input.lua file? Did you try a clean reinstall already? Maybe temporarily saving the .kobo/koreader folder and replacing it by a pristine copy of the release ZIP file from github?

If that doesn't help, please get back - we would need to offer a workaround for the units that have this problem. I've long planned to build a "setup assistent", that deals with initial setup of display orientation and touch panel orientation - not gotten around to do it, though.

Thank you hawhill, a clean reinstall did the trick. This is what the problem was: I merged the new and old koreader folder, but since the input.lua file had changed location, I ended up with two of these files in different locations. The new one, in the folder koreder\frontend\device, had to be manually changed (from X01 Y00 to X00 Y01) to make the device work properly.
Did I say that Koreader is a great app? Kudos to the developers for their effort.

OK, so we need some configuration mechanism for the (as it seems, quite seldom) cases where the touch screen is rotated (or rather - rotated in a different way than usually the case).

Since I misunderstood a question asked by libertango, I proposed here to use a slightly changed koreader.sh. The change did of course not solve libertango-s problem, but I think it is nevertheless useful to better distinguish whether koreader has been called by advboot or KSM. I replaced

by

Thanks everyone for possible solutions, none of them worked though
Is there a way to bind it to a particular wifi hotspot or network? Also, after the "crash" network settings still asks if i want to turn on wifi. Additionally the crash.log is empty

Network/Wifi options still depend very much on the native framework (nickel) for set-up, I think. Eventually, there will be a major overhaul - but it is not quite clear at the moment when someone will have enough time at hands to care for that.

If KOReader can update all highlights and annotations in both original system and itself to Evernote like that it has done in Kindle, it will be very useful. the highlights and annotations in original system are stored in KoboReader.sqlite and it should be easy to extract by sqlite3 tools.

For now the fastest way to change WiFi settings is to use KSM>WiFi. Connect to your AP with KSM and turn WiFi on/off with koreader. If you change AP's (visiting a friend or work) without KSM or Nickel to reconnect, than koreader will keep on trying the old AP name (takes minutes!!).

You could navigate to wherever your existing ebook files are kept, but then you might effect the ebook in a manner that the Kobo database would find objectionable. I don't want to subject my thousands of ebooks to Kobo's processing or database management. So:

For those who are trying the Alternate readers because you prefer a "File Manager" approach over the corruptible database book management approach that Kobo uses; you can easily hide your ebook files from Kobo's database and processing. All that is neccessary is to place the files and folders of your ebook collection in a hidden directory/folder. For a Linux device "hidden" files folders or directories are those that are named with a dot/period before the name ( like .kobo or perhaps for this use .library ) To make such a folder/directory using Windows Explorer you just name the folder with a dot/period both before and after the name (like this ".Library.") the trailing dot/period will disappear leaving the "hidden" name you want (like ".Library")

It can also be done using the commandline command MD.

I have mine on my external uSD card. You can have the File Manager open in the folder of your choice, by setting the first argument for "./reader.lua" to the folder. (Mine is "/mnt/sd/.Koreader/Books") This is in the koreader.sh script file.

You can also have calibre use a "hidden" folder, on your device if you wish.

Huh... Unless koreader actually MODIFIES an ePub file as it reads it why on earth would it make ANY difference to Nickel if you read the same content via either koreader OR Nickel?

In fact I can see why people might like to see koreader display ePubs as found in the Kobo database. This way one could get the 'benefit' of the koreader in reading content in ePub format while continuing to use the shelves etc. defined in the Kobo database. I wouldn't want koreader to actually update the database, rather just read it to find ePub content and associated shelves.

new problem though.. is there a way to sort the file manager so it shows recently opened books at the top before all the other books?

There is a "History" menu with the recently opened files and the last opened is at the top. You access the History list from the "File Manager" menu, the second tab from the left.

You can also set Koreader to open in the last open file, by selecting "Start with last opened file" from the "File Manager" Menu first tab.

Also, there is a different set of menus when you are reading a book.
