I'm a power user who uses the laptop for about 8 hours a day. Windows 8 can't handle my multi tasking or all the real programs. And yes many with Windows 8 have the same problems. I'm with you. I work in IT, and my computers are both omnipresent AND mission critical for me to get my work done and to get paid for it.

I know that many people have many problems (and many times the same problems) with their technology and as someone who works (fortunately? unfortunately? Who's to say!) in IT I am both painfully and pleasurably aware of this fact. And "common" problem is a tricky thing to define when there are millions and sometimes billions of people using a platform such as Windows. With that many users in the world ANY problem becomes "common". Especially when people congregate together on the internet to search for cures and talk about their problem with the electronic device.

So I'm with ya. But it is not a fair thing to lever against Windows 8.x wholesale.

I'm only saying you what every person I know thinks about it. There is a whole forum I belong to where everyone loathes it so we will have to agree to disagree. Windows 8 is just as bad as Windows ME was. How it works on tablet I can't say but for us who need power on a computer it sucks.

Update on the Kindle Fire 6 battery drain. I have fix it. Well sort of I can tell you the culprit is Silk. No I don't use it but for some reason it keeps freezing but I didn't know that till GSam showed me. I clear data and rebooted and problem has not come back in 2 days.

I also was clued in because on my HD 7 Silk keeps freezing and nothing but a clear data and reboot fixes it. However unlike the 7 there is seems to no significant drain but on the 6 there was when it did that. A bad firmware bug indeed. My advice is use another browser until it gets fixed and keep an eye on it.

How to tell you Silk isn't working when you open it up it does nothing. You can't type anything. I have the problem on both tablets so it's got to be a bad bug.

My Silk was completely locked also. But the settings were also locked, so I could not clean the data out. I could not click on anything there. Hubby used it when I first got it and it was stuck to one of his websites he goes to. I couldn't close out the tab, or do anything. Took 3 reboots to get it unfrozen. Not touching silk again. I got some old Dolphin version on it for now.

I also have issues using GSAM battery on it. It does not match up with what the K6 battery icon says. Its like everything is off. 3 charging cycles and still its not synced up. No clue how to fix that. I am using the kindle edition version from the amazon store. I may have to find another battery meter.

And while I am in this thread. Can someone please tell me how I can make the folders in favorites? I made one by accident the other day, them somehow moved the stuff back out and now that folder is gone and I can't seem to make another one. I tried to move an icon of a favorite on top of another, but it doesn't work, it just keeps arranging the icons. What am I missing. Its been driving me nuts.
Can't find anything about that in the manual either. Google is not helping. I feel dumb. But my last Fire was a 2012 8.9 and it didn't have that look and options.

Folders only works with the newer Fires released in 2013 and 2014. It doesn't work on earlier models. For my HD 6, I hover one app over another, and instant folder. Sometimes the bottom app scoots out of the way and you play tag for a bit before it finally succeeds.

I am trying to do this on my HD6. But it won't go on top of the other icon, just chases it all over the place. Told you I feel dumb. . I also noticed that it calls the folders collections. Now like I said, I made one earlier called books and one apps and I can't see them anywhere. I removed the apps out again. But when I long press an icon, I can either remove or add to one of those 2 collections. Yet, I can't see those 2 empty collections anywhere.

GSam is working fine for me. I too am using Dolphin, I actually liked Silk but the last couple updates have render it useless.

Try sneaking up on the runaway app and slowly moving on top. Sometimes I have to resort to tricks like that to capture it.

Scroll up on your favorites until it stops. Your folders might be hiding on page two.

After like what seems like an hour chasing the darn things around, I managed to make 2 folders. But others no matter how often I try, I cannot catch. I tried sneaking up from the bottom, the top, sides. Wish I could sneak up from behind, that might work. . Maybe I can't put those in folders. They are collections I put in favorites from the kindle app. Or well, build in app. I'll just leave them.
I still can't find the previous now empty folders. They still show when adding stuff but they call them collections?
Still confused a bit.


eat: Let me see if I can explain this a bit better. I have created today 3 folders/collection. Library, Tools and Reading. But when I long press something on the home page to add it to a folder/collection, it lists available Library, Tools and the 2 invisible ones Apps1 and books. It does not list the Reading folder as an option to add anything. And I cannot find a way to delete the apps1 and the books folder anywhere. There are apps in each. So the Scribd app is in there in both. But I don't currently have the Scribd app in folder on the home page. Its just there.

You've got me intrigued, so I started playing with my folders/collections. I understand where you're coming from. What a mess I ran into.

When I attempted to add an app from the carousel to a folder/collection, I discovered I have triplicate folders - 3 Radio, 3 Tools, 3 Books, 3 Games, etc. Amazon is remembering prior folders. I only have two devices capable of doing folders - Fire Phone and HD6. So maybe folders are crossing over. I remember doing a factory reset on my HD6 after setting up my folders. So between these options, that would account for 3 sets of folders. If that's the case, it's stupid. Just like calling folders, collections is stupid. Sometimes, Amazon does stupid things.

So far, I haven't found a way to delete the duplicate folders.

Try this - create new folders. Disregard all previous folders. Amazon will allow you to put the same app in multiple folders. Then when you want to add apps from the carousel to a folder, send them to favorites. From there, you can push them into the appropriate folder. That's what I do. I found it easier to do it that way. But now, with these multiple folders I have, it's the only sane way to do it.

The HD6 is my only device that is new enough to have those functions. I have the 2012 HD which doesn't have that and I have the 2011 original fire. So all the "extra" folders come from just the HD6.
I'll just keep as is not, I have the 3 folders on home I want and I can push things into it from the favorites. Well eventually I can, after chasing them around like a darn rabbit.

It still bug me I have these other folders somewhere, but have no access to them. I even tried to add something new to the invisible folders and they still don't show up on favorite list.

I'm still gonna see if I can delete those extra folders. It's a mess. The key thing here is that you can still make folders with the same name and same apps. So that's a plus.

That's the only way I know of to make folders.
