I know with my Nexus, I can go 20 hours with just reading and wifi off. Heck, my Nexus has better battery life than my PW1. I don't have a fire 7 to compare. I figure they have a smaller battery in this one?

I'll just plug it in everyday I guess, or 1.5 days. Depends on how far I get with the charge. I can't stand when I get too low on any of my devices, I get all OCD and constantly check battery level then.

I also haven't been able to make any of the battery apps work with it correctly. GSAM is off and HD battery isn't working right either.
Even with small battery cell phones get more life than this does. That's saying something. In use you should get 8 to 9 hours but not in use it shouldnt go down more than a little each day with WiFi off. Either Amazon used cheap batteries or there is a bug going on. I charge between 15%-30%. I refuse to charge each day unless I am using it for a long period of time.

In the beginning, I did not have good battery life on the hd6. I completely drained the battery and then put it to charge. It seems to have improved the battery life a little. Still not great, but better. I am setting mine up with free time and will give it to my daughter for Christmas

I do like the hd6, but I think a slightly larger screen is better for my needs. I may get the hdx7 or the new Asus memo pad 7 me572. I haven't made up my mind .

It's hard to go back to a 7" after the sharp clarity of the 6" Now the text on the Nexus 7 seems blurry even though it has better PPI. I don't know what Amazon did on the 6" to get that amazing rendering of text let's just hope they never mess it up with a firmware update. My KF7 text has never been good enough for me to read on for long periods of time.

I've done that with KF6 charging it after a complete drain leaving it on overnight. No difference.

I have to agree with you on the clarity of the 6". Getting back to reading on my Note 8 is impossible, the 6" is so much better for reading !

The battery life of the HD6 is much better than my 2nd Gen Fire, but is nowhere near the battery life of my N7. I still love that cute little thing!

I ended up repurchasing some of my Google Play apps for the HD6 with coins because sideloading brought up Google Play Store nag screens. A shame Amazon is so territorial.

I read on my Nexus 7 for almost a year now so switching is a shock for me but the text rendering on the 6" is breathtaking. It beats the Nexus 7, Kindle Fire HD 7 (2013) and Kindle Fire HDX hands down.

I do miss the extra screen space though.

It's not on my Kindle Fires. I wish I knew a way to boost the battery life. I only have Dropbox, Moon+, Mantano, ES File Explorer, Display Brightness, Scribd and Goodreads installed on the 6"

On the 7" I have all those installed plus Candy Crush Saga, Farm Heroes Saga, Netflix, Slacker Radio, Tune In, Calibre companion, Holy Bible, Photo Editor, App manager Pro, GSam Battery.

I can leave WiFi on on the 7 and a day later lose about 3% battery. On the 6 I turn WiFi off and lost about 12% since last night which is about 12 hours. Nothing is running in the background but default stuff. I don't get what is draining it so fast!

How can you check which apps are running in the background on the Fire HD 6? I know how to find that info on my other Android tablets but haven't been able to locate it on the Fire.

In order to discover what's draining your battery, you could temporarily uninstall apps one at a time and see if that makes any difference, starting with the most likely culprits.

Another thought: Perhaps settings are different between the two devices—either general device settings or within individual apps (both preinstalled and downloaded). You might want to compare all settings.

Hope you're able to figure it out!

I've been eyeing the Asus me572 also. Currently $180 at Best Buy. If it goes on sale, I'd be mightily tempted.

I have been going to the best buy site on a daily basis hoping to find the Asus tablet on sale. I just don'tknow if iI want the Asus or the hdx. I do have prime, but it's nice to have working screen savers and wallpaper .

How is the performance on the hdx? I use fbreader with a background image which would hopefully help with the blue edge on white background. I am just looking for a replacement for my nook hd+. I have to wiggle the charger to get it charge up and it randomly reboots. Seems like it's dying so I want a decent replacement. I mostly check email, watch movies, browse the Internet. The hd6 does make a good reader, but Web browsing on it is just hard on my eyes. Like a tiny blur.

I don't own an Amazon tablet so I've nothing to compare. I am looking for a basic generic Android tablet with a good screen. The Samsung Pro 8.4 was $200 on BF but I found it heavy and awkward to hold.

Nexus 7 is an excellent tablet and now with Lollipop it has even more features. I just hoping someone can get flash to work again. I use it for everything. It has the best text rendering I've seen on a 7" tablet. Good battery life, solid and very light and easy to hold.

Yes; the Nexus 7 (2013) would be an excellent choice. I have it and love it.

Have you upgraded to Lollipop yet? I did and lost my Flash ability in Dolphin. Everything else works fine though.
