It needs some promotion because it has been neglected this past year.

My first post and I apologize fora a really noob one, but is there some kind of rescue pack inbuilt in this jailbreak? Because the first guide I found had a step where you installed a rescue pack. But that was an outdated guide and I got directed here.
Is there any way to reset my PW2 to stock now? |

(That is, what do you have installed that you want to remove.) What firmware version are you running? |

No, the rescue pack still requires you separately install it from here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho....php?p=2290044
What do you need to do, exactly? Downgrade the firmware? |

May want to look at this addon to RP, too, which is even better for emergency debricking Just In Case.
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=232507 Don't worry about making "restore points". This has a handy-dandy 5.4.0 image for flashing via diags mode (that's what the rescue pack gets you): http://ixtab.tk/kindle-touch-images/PW2/README.txt And you can apply any official firmware update from Amazon, since they contain full system images. Except 5.4.0 because they never released an update, it was the first fw version. And fw5.5.0+ has protection against "downgrade attacks", but in that case, you can still boot to diags and overwrite the partition with ixtab's 5.4.0 images. |

Wow, I feel like I've learned so much today.
Edit: Wow, I actually figured out how to do everything and got connected. I don't understand where he named the thing so he can access it by saying "root@kindle" instead of "root@IP" though. On another note, is there any way to sort a collection by, say the file name (if I want to order my books in a series, eg 01 goes first, 02 goes second, etc)? I looked at Collections manager 2.2.7, but it seems it's a no. Also, it seems there's no swipe to unlock toggle, and they're directly linked with removing/keeping offers? So basically, the screensaver mod is useless if you have a cover, and the screensaver mod is useless if you have SO... Last edited by Spartan117H3; 12-04-2014 at 12:34 AM. |

Change to a non-magnet cover; or Shield the cover magnet; or Remove the cover magnet; or Add your own magnet, not attached to the cover; or Look at your cover very quickly as the Kindle wakes up. Or, maybe, set a password on the Kindle. I think it shows the cover while displaying the panel for the unlock password entry. The screensaver mod. is **very** clear about not being compatible with the Special Offers (SO) Kindles. Last edited by knc1; 12-04-2014 at 12:59 AM. |

Yes, even Windows has an 'etc/hosts' file - not at the root of the file system ('/') but somewhere under the system32 sub-tree if I recall correctly. Not sure? Ask Google: "windows hosts file location" Google knows everything (except what page of what book your reading - Amazon tracks that). Last edited by knc1; 12-04-2014 at 01:12 AM. |

Oh, I didn't know it was that simple, I've messed with the host file before, but now I finally get what it does in general. Thanks. |

Short answer: No
Long answer: Probably, but not practical. Would require hardware modification and/or modification of the Linux kernel. - - - - Side note: The more common complaint about embedded devices is: "It does not resume fast enough". You know, like in who wants to wait for their car's dashboard (or kitchen blender) to re-boot? Amazon/Lab126 has the resume time on the Kindles engineered to require less than 1/2 second. Which is pretty good, even in the world of automotive dashboards. ![]() Gone are the days when the lead operator would IPL the system 360 installation and everybody went home, because it was going to take at least 18 hours to come on-line. Been there, done that, took the day off myself. Last edited by knc1; 12-04-2014 at 01:27 AM. |
