My Poetic Revolution finally arrived for my HD6 - yay

Tonight hubby is happily playing with my HD6 while I contemplate the idiocy of buying another tablet or phone just to sideload the apps I've actually paid for. Right now I'm regretting buying the HD tbh, and feeling pretty miserable.

Look at it as excuse to buy a small phone you can then use as a media player.
It's the holidays so yeah I use those excuses that's why I need a Fire Phone.

Well, bananas! My two are still MIA. But they sent me a "Poetic Slim Book" case as a consolation while I wait. A rather hideous design that I won't use, but it's the thought that counts.

Problem is I have no other use for a new phone.......I keep thinking about a new tablet which is utterly ridiculous as I already have three

It's only for a few paid apps so it all seems ridiculous

I already have an iPad Air, a Mini Retina and an iPhone 6+.......I need to go and hibernate

Well the slim book is brand new and for the HD 6....looks perfect. Just a hideous style.

Yes they are gifts for my daughters. So I'll just hope they get here before Christmas!

They should have sent you a Slimline instead which is what I have.

Do you know anyone who has recently gotten a new smart phone that's still keeping their old phone? If so make sure that older phone isn't running the latest and greatest version of Android and make an offer!

Can you buy a cheap Android tablet for the apks and then return it?

Yes! Slim lines are good cases. The slim book is so strange. Its got 2 elastic straps on the bottom. But the top is a big flap of vinyl that comes down over the top of the fire. It is ugly!

Yeah it looks strange to me too but alot of people like them for some reason.

I haven't tried this, but this seems like it might work.

A post by Clark Kromenaker on this page says

"When I needed Kindle Fire's android ID, I was able to use the Android Debug Bridge (http://developer.android.com/tools/help/adb.html) and use the "adb devices" command to see the identifier. Luckily, on the Kindle Fire, the ID returned was the Android ID. Note that for some devices, this is not the case. The Android ID will be a 16-digit value, 0-9 & A-F"

Note what's in bold above. He only said it worked for the "Kindle Fire," so you can't be sure it'll return the device id for the Fire 6.

On a Windows PC:
You'd need the Android SDK (Software Development Kit), which needs the Java Platform (JDK) if your PC doesn't already have it (you'll get a popup upon first opening the SDK if you need to install the JDK).

This page leads you through things.

Jumping ahead to preview your goal, scroll down that page to the screenshot of the cmd.exe black window, and you see the results of the "adb devices": a device id (presumably) with most of it blocked out in red.

A caution is that he calls it the "serial number" just below that cmd.exe black window.

Here's another page from Amazon detailing the instructions, including using Mac OS X. It also refers to the "adb devices" return as a "serial number." You can check it against the serial number displayed in the Fire 6's Settings, and hopefully it'll be different.
