Hey eschwartz. Just got done replacing a cover on KDP and your giving me the command line way of doing it in Linux worked great! (One tiny glitch, the command line would not recognize my file name (Jamie'sGamble.blah.blah.epub) until I took the apostrophe out.) Thanks so very much for that and all the help!

Apostrophes need to be escaped, and written as such:
\'
Generally, I just double-tab on the command-line and allow it to autocomplete filenames.

Unless there is a real need for the apostrophe there, it is probably easier to not use special characters though.

Thanks Boss. Using your 'how to post photos from Flickr' help today. (I would not be able to function without you!)

I'm back already, Boss. Did everything perfectly to post here from Flickr. Got this (see attachment) instead of the photo. Checked into why. Seems Flickr has some nasty bug. https://secure.flickr.com/help/forum...+kitson+Aviary

Boss, Mediafire seems like it should be easy. I've got an account there. (And I've tried to do the posting thing and couldn't figure it out.) Do you know how to use that?

Or should I got to Photobucket or somewhere else and open a new account there?

Thanks.

Greg,

I posted the following tutorial to another forum, explaining how to use imgur to post images. It will also work here. The advantage of imgur is that you don't need an account.

----------------------------------------------------------

This tutorial will explain how to upload an image to imgur.com and add it to a forum post.

You do not need an account at imgur.com, so this is a useful option if you don't already have anywhere to upload photos. You can register at imgur, but you don't have to.

Go to imgur.com and click upload images button at the top of the page.

Upload the image. You can drag & drop the image, or click browse your computer and choose the image from the dialogue box. Click Start Upload.

When it is uploaded, there will be a series of links to the right of the image. Select the text from the link labelled BBCode (message boards & forums).

Go to your forum post, and press CTRL-V (or right-click and select paste) to paste the code from your computer's clipboard to the post. The code will be something like this:

PHP Code:
[IMG]http://i.imgur.com/onXpElr.jpg[/IMG]
----------------------------------------

In response to a query, I then added this:

When you uploaded, there will have been links above the image saying something like "First image", "Second image", "Third image". You can use those to switch between uploaded images.

Alternatively, just upload a single image at a time (that's the simpler option). You can still paste multiple image links into a single post. In writing the tutorial, I assumed people would only upload a single image at a time.

Thanks Russell! Wow, the tutorial looks great! I can't wait to try it. (And it obviously works for you!) I've heard good things about imgur. Really appreciate it!

This is a test.

OMG, Russell, that is SO EASY. I was able to post everywhere with it. I didn't open an account yet but probably will.

I used the deletion link, though, and all the photos I posted (like the Flash Fiction one here) are still there. I thought the photos on the forums no longer appeared when the link on IMGUR is deleted. Is that not the case?

And like on Mediafire (or Flickr for that matter) when you have an account you can decide if you want certain things in your account "private" or "public." Do you happen to know if that's the case with IMGUR?

This is awesome. Thanks. (And great tutorial! Simple. Concise.)

ahhhhhhhhhhh

I was just out trying to learn about IMGUR (about 12 minutes) and when I came back the "Flash Fiction" image no longer appeared. So is that how it will work on all the forums or wherever my image is posted if I use the IMGUR deletion link?

And while looking around I clicked on the IMGUR "help" choice (From the three little horizontal bar icon dropdown in the toolbar.) and got this (see 75 attachment). I checked the url out in VirusTotal and it says it's clean but I was still a little nervous about it.

And I've been running into things like that more and more. Is Chrome just getting a little twitchy or should I obey their warnings and not go to the sites?

It is the new push towards proper HTTPS handling. Many sites are rather pathetic about their SSL certificates, so until they become normal you will see this a lot.

Firefox is not as twitchy.

Also, I could swear that warning is only supposed to show up for sites using HSTS (Strict Transport Security)... mumblemumblemumble

See: https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/anal...help.imgur.com for an analysis of the website security. Note the large errors about badly-configured certs.

Thanks Boss. Cool site. I ran the test and it said 'not to be trusted.' But I know the site, right, and I'm not giving any sensitive info (it's just a "help" site) so I really have no risk going there, right?

btw I learned how to post from Mediafire. Which is good because I have a lot of stuff stored there. Still going to investigate IMGUR because it looks like you can crop and do other editing there and on Mediafire you can't.

Yep.

It's just warning you that the site wants to use secured connections, indicating it is supposed to have a high level of trust, but doesn't actually have a high level of trust. It is no worse than just viewing the site without HTTPS at all, except that some browsers make it difficult to override the warning.

Beware if your bank shows that error though.
