Do you really consider that a reasonable way to do highlighting/annotations while reading a book?

Please don't scare me like that!

Nah. FBReader doesn't highlight. Only Windows/Mac ereaders highlight (and not all of them either.) Honestly this is very surprising to me. With as creative and inventive as Linux people are in adapting to what's out there this seems like a HUGE gap. Everybody likes to highlight stuff now and then. So all Linux users reading epubs or mobis not on Kindle can't highlight. Very surprising. (But I'm holding out hope that you can figure this out, Boss!)

Yep, Kindle 4 PC seems to work great in WINE. See here: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManag...estingId=81784

If you've never used WINE before, we can guide you through the steps.

Hey Boss, thanks for the offer but I got it going easily. (I was waiting for stumbling blocks that never happened.) And thanks for the link. I went to the main page and there's some cool stuff there that's platinum. (I think Steam may be next!) Appreciate it!

Steam for Linux was released in February of last year, IIRC. Many of their games were and are in the middle of being rereleased to work with the new client. Going forward, all their games should by default work under Linux.

Certain games, specifically older ones, mag never be released under linux. But by and large you no longer need to run Steam as a Windows program through WINE.

One of the great victories of linux.

As said, I wasn't being serious, but since you ask...

Open the file in the editor. Find the text you want to highlight. Highlight it in the usual way, then click on the "Background Colour" icon and select a colour. Save the file.

You could do it in Sigil if you prefer, but obviously the steps would be slightly different.

I could be wrong, but I've always had the sense that the original purpose of the ebook-viewer in Calibre was just to preview the files before sending them to a device for actual reading (which is what I always use it for -- checking the result of a conversion). It's quite bare bones from the perspective of a user who wants to use it as their actual reading application.

I'm sure you're right, twowheels, but I think it works as an ereader in its own right fabulously.

It certainly does!

As a desktop ereader, it is excellent -- although most would probably use a portable device of some sort.

It makes an excellent offering on Windows tablets, too, or so I've heard.
