So the Aura screensize is actually 748 x 1024 pixels? I'm just curious at this point, I don't own an Aura and never will (don't like capacitive touch). I looked around for anyone posting a direct screenshot off an Aura, but couldn't find one to verify the size difference.

I always thought it was odd that the Glo was already at 758 x 1024, already 10 pixels short of the standard 4:3 ratio of 768 x 1024.

I can make a patch for the HD/H2O, but I don't know what the current homescreen layout looks like on those devices.

The original Glo and Aura layout had a large gap at the bottom of the tiles, so it took only a fairly small change to make room for an extra row of book tiles. Unless the other devices have that large gap too, there might not be any benefit from a patch.

I think the Aura screen is 758x1014, the Glo 758x1024.

According to Kobo's site, the Aura is 758x1024, the Glo is 768x1024. On another hand, according to eInk's site, the 6" Pearl screen used in the Glo and the 6" Pearl ClarityScreen used in the Aura come in a standard 758x1024 resolution.

Your guess is as gone as mine as to which is right though the Glo being 10 pixels wider than the Aura would fit with the results of attempting to place more tiles on the screen.

If anyone with an Aura would be willing to upload a screenshot taken from the reader itself using the screenshot=true line in the .conf file using the power switch, that should really tell us what the exact pixel size is, right? I know the screenshots I get off the Glo that way are definitely 758 x 1024.

I've seen the different sizes on Kobo's site, it depends on which page you're looking at. The main page for the Glo says 768 x 1024. But if you go to the comparison page, it then says 758 x 1024.

Edit: I checked the main page at Kobo for the Aura, and there it says 758 x 1024. Yet on the comparison page it says 758 x 1014.

Thanks for your time GeoffR, this you can see in the annex, is the result of the tests (Glo patched and unpatched Aura HD) that I made using kobo utilities, so I think it is not possible to add new tiles.

How do you decrypt the Kobo firmware to make certain files readable for humans and to be able to search for possible other interesting strings that can be customized? How is this done for librmsdk.so.1.0.0, libnickel.so.1.0.0, and libadobe.so?
IMO, the files are XOR encrypted and zipped (zlib)?

I don't think the strings are encrypted, but some of them are stored as C++ QString objects instead of plain C strings, so you need to search for utf-16 strings as well as ascii strings.

In Linux the command "strings --radix=x --encoding=l libnickel.so.1.0.0" will list the utf-16 strings.

The library tile still has the white border, but there are no further instances of "coverBorder".

And can you find a way to center the covers in the tiles?

Since 3.8.0 and now with 3.11.0 the patched files are not added to a final archive file (KoboRoot.tgz).
The patched files are generated in "\patch_kobo_3110\3.11.0_target" output directory. The patch creates the correct folder directory structure ("\usr\local\Kobo") but it does not create the final archive. I have to do this manually.
Note: I've extracted all 'patcher' files correctly.

Just tested it again with firmware 3.5.0.: same result. Which is stange, as this version always created the final archive.

I think this is my machine / W8.1 Pro releated, not the patcher files.
I don't know what caused it, so I can't fix it.

OS: W8.1 Pro (x64)

Have you tried running the batch file in administrator mode? I had to do that under the Windows 10 tech preview.

So interesting you bring this up. I just had the EXACT same problem yesterday on my Win 8 laptop. I ended up using my Windows 7 work desktop and it went easily and smoothly then.

Poor Skydog on here was so very kindly trying to help me. (Thank you again, skydog! You're an angel!) I couldn't understand where I was going wrong. It was so baffling why it wasn't working for me. I finally sorted it by switching computers.

I hadn't thought of using administrator mode, DNSB. That may just be it.

There should be an error message by 7-zip and/or the script
Possible error messages of the script are:
- ERROR while creating KoboRoot.tar
- ERROR while creating KoboRoot.tgz
- No result!

@Anak
From your description ("final archive") I take it is "ERROR while creating KoboRoot.tgz". Just to be sure.
This might help to find the problem.

@DNSB
Do you remember what exactly was the problem when running without administrator mode? Where there some messages from 7-zip?

Yes, what i meaned here is the final step to create the archive with the patched files.
There is no error message, the script just ends without creating the archive (or it doesn't pauze and keep the CMD window open, like other erorrs).

'FIND' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Output log as administrator, in an elevated CMD. The output is similar.
However if I run the batch file directly. Right click and choose "Run as administrator":
Code:

Press any key to continue...
It is obvious the "3.11.0_source" is not present in the Windows directory.
I don't know why the file looks there.

Output log as administrator, in an elevated CMD. The output is similar.
However if I run the batch file directly. Right click and choose "Run as administrator":
Code:
ERROR: Can not find C:\WINDOWS\system32\3.11.0_source
Press any key to continue...
It is obvious the "3.11.0_source" is not present in the Windows directory.
I don't know why the file looks there.
