My wife has these vivid dreams where I'm snoring very loudly. Sometimes, these dreams are so realistic she actually gets up and sleeps in the spare room.

My bedroom has sprung a leak again (this time on the other side of the room than last time). After peering out of one of the roof windows it looks like it is "just" a clogged gutter. Unfortunately not a gutter accessed easily. My father wants to find a telescopic pole with a hook thingie on the end so I can rake the debris clogging it towards a more easily accessible spot. The plan is to do this next Sunday.
Unfortunately it's going to rain a lot in the coming days. So I already put the handy square buckets in the windowsill and I'm keeping my fingers crossed it won't start leaking anywhere else. |

It might be the after effects of the dentist's anaesthetic but I don't know what you mean.
I do know it took almost a year to get it fixed; first it took months before my father called in the roofers, then a new window and the right roofing tiles had to be ordered and finally they made several mistakes that needed to be fixed. Especially after the roofers last mistake by removing a bottom row of tiles, which only needed shortening because they were sticking out into the gutter. That left a gap between the tiles and the gutter. Which meant that when it rained it happily all poured right down my walls. Luckily, a blocked gutter is more easily fixed....I hope. |

It might be a linguistic thing. "Isn't this where we came in?" is a phrase meaning "deja vu" or something like that. Literally, I think it means "we only saw the last half of the movie, so we stayed to watch the repeat of it. Now we're seeing something I recognize, so 'isn't this where we came in' cuz we already saw it, the first time round."

I'm ticked because Dominion Virginia Power is planning to cut down all the Crepe Myrtle trees in my back yard, leaving me with a total of one Silver Maple tree in the front yard.
See the power lines they are endangering in the photo below? I'm sorry. You have to pull back a bit to see the power lines. Yeah, these crepe myrtles, some of which are a neighbor's, are a real threat all right. Remember that time a group of crepe myrtles grew into major power distribution lines and caused a massive blackout? Yeah, me neither. |

I would think you could request a hearing. I should take some pictures of how many of our local trees are right up against the power lines

I agree -- there ought to be some bigwig you could appeal to. Or a trouble-line at a newspaper (if those still exist). That's ridiculous!

Sign that the world is in bad shape:
I just went to a local store and bought an item that totaled up to $1.10. I handed the clerk $2.00 and she keyed this in and the cash drawer opened. She seemed to freeze up for a moment peering down into the cash pan and then back up to the display which was showing 0.90 as change due. I could see that she had full change slots of pennies, nickles and quarters; just no dimes. And three quarters and a nickle would have fulfilled my need for ninety cents change back. And there were plenty of everything except the missing dimes. She asked me to hold on a minute and took a $20 from her cash drawer and walked back to a different area behind the counter and began trading out for a round of change. For those unfamiliar it consists of: one $10 roll of quarters, one $5 roll of dimes, one $2 roll of nickles and 2 $.50 rolls of pennies with two $1 bills to round it out. I waited patiently, wondering the entire time why she decided to re-stock the change at this particular moment. She finally came back and emptied the roll of dimes into the cash pan, placed the other rolls of change alongside some other rolls of change already in the drawer and promptly counted out nine dimes to me for my change. I took this to mean two things: First, the clerk does not understand how to make change properly by giving the maximum of largest value coins down to smallest value (three quarters and a nickle, or just four coins instead of all dimes for nine coins). Second, instead of trading out equal money amount for a single roll of missing coins, she was following a set of change-collecting instructions. If all she needed was dimes, she could have just gotten one roll for a $5 bill. I wonder if she will eventually use the extra change through the rest of her shift or if, at the end of each work day, she turns in several rolls of coins during her count-down. ----- Edit ----- Yes, I realize the totals don't add up. What I was laying out in my head and what eventually made it onto the rant were slightly different. Last edited by steven522; 10-28-2014 at 09:16 AM. Reason: Lame excuse... |
