Yes, unfortunately. Or I would have. We use them where we can, but in this case, I can't. And I'm already juggling around decisions made purely for cost with no thought for consequences later. And later is now.

Since Monday I've had pain in my left shoulder/neck. Not a frozen shoulder - I had that a couple of years ago, and this is different. But it was bad enough that I had to come home from work early today.
Luckily I managed to get an osteopath appointment this afternoon. I have muscles in spasm and a stiff neck and middle back. With a bit of manipulation it should be better in three or four weeks. I know it'll get better, but oh, it's painful now. Off to dose up on ibuprofen and paracetamol. |

Real reason for vent/rant. I have an owl in my bathroom. At first I thought it was a barn owl but after looking at pictures I realized it's very likely a spotted owl which is a protected species here. So now I have to catch it again, box it up and take it to the wildlife people. How did this come to happen you ask? A well meaning friend who thinks I'm closely related to mother earth and the answer to animals in need rescued it 75 MILES away and brought it to me at 10 last night. And of course I had a breakfast meeting at 7 this morning, so now have to go back home and play owl wrangler. Yep yep yep |

JUST KIDDING!When I lived in Pullman, WA, I was part of the wild bird rescue/rehabilitation program. One winter (Dec or Jan methinks) I was asked to drive a carload of birds to the Raptor Rehabilitation center in Boise, Idaho - these were owls, hawks, etc. that had injuries preventing their return to the wild - I was the designated driver b/c I'm originally from Ohio and knew how to drive on snow & ice. So we filled the seats of a borrowed Mustang (with studded snow tires) with boxes of irritated birds and took off - through the mountain passes, along roads that had had one lane (in the center) scraped flat with a snow plow - with minimal guard rails. Whenever we met an oncoming truck, I had to swerve to the right - my passenger would stay completely silent until we had successfully passed the truck and then tell me how deeply I had embedded the passenger side door handle into the snow bank thrown up by the snow plow. I can't remember if the side mirror made it. The funny part - the birds stayed completely still unless the car traveled over 30 mph - whereupon the entire lot would start 'running in place' inside their boxes and trying to flap their wings - slowing down would quiet them immediately. Talk about back seat drivers! It was one of the longest drives of my life - and one of the tensest! But we made it, and were rewarded by liberating our passengers into the huge enclosures for their permanent residents. Whew! And I got to play with their resident saw whet owl - Tater Tot! So, one owl? Pshaw! |

+ LOTS!!!! As you know, I've been there with not one but TWO damn frozen shoulders, so I (wait for it) feel for you. I appreciate your insights on those problems, previously. I'm keeping my fingers and shoulders (ha) crossed for you!
Feel better. Hitch |

What I created is a "quote as needed" placeholder posting which you can use when you want to post but not actually need to quote somebody else.
As for the self reference gag n° 2: have you noticed where the pointer (blue link thingy inside the quote) is pointing to?

Ok, so it was pooh's owl after all, a saw Whet. According to the wildlife people he was extremely healthy and ready to go. He was released Friday night. I was invited to do it, but just couldn't get there in time.
Pooh, I've had many of those jaw clenching drives so I completely get that! The bit about them all running in place after a certain acceleration is interesting! I wonder if it has something to do with an inner ear/navigation sort of thing? Ugh. Rant. .. I've always been able to hear the ferry horns and foghorns from my room. I can usually tell if it's the ferry getting ready to cast off vs. Warning another vessel that is crowding vs. Damn it's foggy! I can also hear the fixed station/coastal horns. A new one came online a couple of weeks ago. This little SOB has a completely different pitch and phenomenal reach. When it's feeling petulant it sounds like it's right outside aimed at my window. When it's using "that tone of voice" it jerks me right up out of bed ready to. ..... take on something. The closest reaction I can equate it to is the NATO alerts that stirred the Hornets nest. Don't get me wrong! I love listening to them, but not that particular one! Which leads me to; do Androids dream of electric sheep? Or, What the hell is that doggie in the window dreaming about? Ever Since I've had him, Aragorn will periodically let loose with the most incredibly mournful, hound of the Baskerville's, make your spine tingle, aaaaaAAAAARRRRRoooOOOooo! About once every other month or so. It's a jerk out of a sound sleep bolt upright, cold sweat, probably some sort of genetic memory/reaction sort of deals. He's done that 3 times now tonight. I wonder what the hell he's processing in the gray matter tonight. At least a little sleep would be nice. I have to go to wyoming next week. That is all |
