Good deal!

Did they have the Fire 6 on display?

Not at my location. I had seen it at another local store and liked the size very much.

Very excited about getting mine next week. For those who have one already, especially compared to the 7" HD, does the 6" feel much more compact? Easier to tote around, maybe tuck into a pocket?
Thanks.

Nor mine. I asked a salesperson and he had no knowledge of them, either.

Just as an aside, no 6" Fires in stock at my BB, so I wouldn't have been able to do the instant gratification thing even if I'd wanted to.
I ordered via the Best Buy website for store pickup yesterday. Of course, had to pick a store that had some in stock, but it was relatively painless. Ordered around 6:30am when I woke up and received no less than three emails afterwards, the last saying my Fire 6 was waiting for me at the Pick up area in the store. Had it home and working by 10:30am the same day. So easy.

Saw the promotional ad as well, but only had a Nook HD that I wasnt using. Too bad. Would have loved to have gotten the $50 gift card.

Hope you get yours soon!

Look at the side by side comparison between a Paperwhite and the Fire 6!

I have the HD7 generation before last and now the new HD6 and the difference in size is remarkable. The 6" model has much smaller bezels in addition to a smaller screen. It's a perfect fit for my hand. The big difference is the device size. The screen is only a little bit smaller.

The difference in screen size is enough to make it less desirable for watching videos but not a lot less. I watched the first half of a movie on the 6" one and then switched to the 7" one and it was an improvement but it was okay on 6" too.

I'm really pleased with mine so far.

I have the 1st gen HD7 too and the bezels on that thing are outrageously large. You can't even grip it in one hand like other 7" tablets (Nexus 7, Galaxy Tab). Hoping to do a hands on of the HD6 this weekend at Best Buy.

Glad you're liking it. I wanna like it too, but that'll depend on the speaker.

Now that I look at the HD 6 again, the 16:10 aspect kind of bothers me. I wonder if some things will look stretched? I guess I'll get used to it. Still waiting for my Citron.

Wow, those are much closer in physical size than I expected. I knew the Fire would probably not have as wide of a screen, but it sort of makes up for it length-wise. That Fire should be very comfortable to tote around. I think it would be hard for me to choose a Paperwhite now when, for the exact same price, I could get a 16 gig Fire that does so much more.
Looking forward to your thoughts when you have a chance to give your Fire a workout.

I have decided on the 6" It's just so darn cute and I have watch movies on my 5" Galaxy
Player with no problems. Now can any of you tell me if it suffers from the past HDs models that after using it for a while the back where the battery is literally becomes a hand warmer?

Thanks for that link. I think I'm going to trade my 1st gen Fire for the 6" model.

Ok, wow. First impressions, love it! I read a bit using the side loaded Moon Reader+ this afternoon. Loaded a few apps. I love the size of it! The mirror surface is, as usual, a bit bothersome to me. I modified a screen protector. Way too many bubbles. So did another. The second one is all right, except for a HAIR. Erggh. So I ordered the Moshi iVisor. Expensive, but at least it is reusable. So hopefully I can get it on without bubbles and hair!

I need to spend some time reading with Scribd. Can't figure out where to turn off "auto update." I'm more familiar with regular Android. Haven't tried browsing yet, except to get dropbox, 1mobile, and Chrome for Android. I'll probably try MR later tonight.

Blossom, glad you decided on the 6, are you going to get a color, or black? I noticed today when I was using it while charging, that the top of the device, near the USB port, did get hot. I didn't notice any heat while I was reading in the car, although I was holding it at the bottom.

I need a case with a hand strap, or the GraphGrip with an added ribbon or hair band. I'll wait and see what comes on the market. Yes it is great holding with one hand, but turning the page with that same hand can require finger acrobatics.

So, it makes a great reader, with Calibre Companion and Moon+. I think I have found the perfect tablet for reading! But time will tell.

I was going to order a case from rooCase, but the colors they are planning for release don't appeal to me.
Which is a good thing, since I think I'll like this case from Poetic.

Supposedly it will have the hand strap.

Of courses it will probably sit in it's shipping bag, I'm so bad about using cases.
