Hmm. I assume running jb.sh from kterm is enough to update with MKK bridging? (I am too lazy to go through the process of restarting.
![]() I have a question about the MKK bridge. Does it preserve it when you deregister, or must you restart after deregistering to restore the MKK, or what? EDIT: Answered my own question: Quote:
Reboot it is. |

Is there any way with a Kindle to revert to a previous version like with some Android devices? I am dumb, to be sure. I got my PW1 in May 2013 and immediately used the jailbreak. Stupidly, I took an update that I really hate due to the changes, so now I am on 5.4.4.2 and having issues as well. Thoughts, help, solutions anyone? TIA

Yes, just download the update.bin that you want.
I believe they are all still hosted on Amazon, but only the latest are linked (and any that you need for two-step updates). You can find an archive of many Kindle updates here: http://ixtab.tk/kindle-touch-updates.php |

Update button greyed out no matter what
I have a kindle paperwhite 2 downgraded to 5.4.3.2 and the update button is greyed out. I've tried everything in the readme for solution and none is working for me. Any suggestions?

@supersmart07: Use the package from the snapshots.
(FWIW, I planned to do a proper release at the end of summer, but shit happened, so this'll have to wait for the next break in a month or so). |

Hi guys!
Anybody up to help out a noob? I managed to install the jailbreak and USBNetworking via update method and it was working well. Maybe too good since I managed to mess it up by mistyping the serial number. Instead of B024 I typed in B023... That on it self would not be terrible... would I have not reset the device. Now I have no access to USBNetworking (or maybe I do but I cannot start it) and Update stays grayed out and Update files go missing. Can I do something other than to open and solder the serial port on it? Maybe repackaging the jailbreak would help to make PW accept it on new serial however I don't know how to do that. Thanks, Dejan |

Since the Jail break and the USBnetworking do not have anything to do with typing in a serial number. ? ? ? ? ? So fess-up -- Just what were you doing (or trying to do) ? Where, when, what, why, and how? Was the serial number actually changed? I.E: What shows in your settings menu? The tool to unpackage and re-package any of the updates is the KindleTool. I installed the jailbreak and usbnetwork without problem. In Mac Terminal via ssh root@192.168.15.244 and idme -d --serial B023170123760047 I managed a serial change. As you might think no luck with Amazon since the number is a typo... But PW is still working. Then I foolishly wanted to make a quick cleanup and performed a factory reset. PW still works i.e. I can still sideload books and read them. However I do not have USB root access nor can I apply any other hacks... I can live with that however would be nice to have it back. Hope this sheds some light to my wrongdoings. Regards, D Last edited by dejanrecek; 10-04-2014 at 04:00 PM. |

Not the serial number change. The serial number change only locked you out of the PW1 update_*.bin files (since B023 is a K4). So just take the KindleTool and in the source, swap the locations of B023 and B024 in the code, re-compile. If I recall correctly, everything you need is in the KindleTool package. Then use your modified KindleTool to open the USBnet update_*.bin file for the PW1 and then re-create the package specifying the transposed K4 names. The device Jailbreak is not in an "update_*.bin" style package, but you may have to do some model number swapping in it just the same. Take everything from the "NiLuJe's snapshots" thread. (Including the cross-compiler) Directions for everything are in the packages and/or in our wiki. - - - - - PS: Just changing the serial number is not enough to get Amazon to accept your device. |

I just used the JB in the OP. I am on 5.4.4.2. I know nothing about tar.xz files and cannot use the snapshot files. Everything went great, got the JB message, etc., until I restarted. Then it performed a factory reset and all files are gone. Not a biggy except for the setup, but it would be nice to know why. Also, will I never be able to do a restart again if I need to? Thanks!

I figured I have to repack the files with numbers changed... however I used a different approach. I first downgraded to 5.3.5, then applied the .mobi jailbreak and entered diags mode via ENABLE_DIAGS... rest was easy with ssh access. Even though I managed, it's nice to know someone is there to watch your back in case of trouble. Off topic maybe - do you know any way I could get "my" kindle registered? Regards, Dejan |
