Amazon says the tablets were built to withstand drops from up to 1 meter (3.3 feet) in the air without sustaining damage. That's a big deal for business users who want an affordable mobile device they can depend on, since most budget tablets are too far flimsy to survive that kind of spill.

I don't plan on buying a cover for the 6" device. I Have always bought nice covers for my tablets, but was hoping at that size to be able to tuck it into a pocket without a cover adding to its bulk. Excellent :-)

I like those types of silicone shells, but don't want it to cover my blue back

I use a Poetic GraphGrip Case on my Nexus 7. Love the way it feels in my hands.

That would be a nice case for indoor use. I have something similar from Marware that I use to cover my K4S. It's great around the house, but not enough protection for outdoor use.

For outdoor use, I want a case with a rigid shell covered in silicone with a built-in screen protector. I like Gumdrop better than OtterBox; but hey, I'll take anything of similar design.

If you look at the kids HD6, I think the case shown with them looks similar.

I like my "book-type" covers, it helps with one hand gripping for extended reading. That is the main reason I buy covers, since I rarely damage any.

I saw it and that case doesn't have a rigid plastic shell, nor does it have a built-in screen protector. Plus it comes in the wrong colors; black is missing.

• Fire HD 7.1 (2012) --> Amazon Standing Leather --> indoor media streaming
• Kindle Fire 2 (2012) --> Gumdrop Drop Tech --> appointments
• Nexus 7.2 (2013) --> Finite Slim Fit Folio --> light travel/ home use
• Nexus 4 (2012) --> Ballistic Tough Jacket --> major travel/ outdoor use
• Kindle 4S (2011) --> Marware SportGrip --> home use only

I'm a Skin and clear TPU back cover for all my devices. I did save the Hutton leather envelope case from my original Nook Color for use if taking out of house, and so far, everything has fit it just fine.

I have the Poetic GraphGrip case on my Kindle Fire HD 7 (2013). It's a nice case.
Amazon is touting how it gave these new tabs a beating and they are very durable, so this will be the first time I have a naked tablet, but that's part of the reason I bought it (small form factor), and I don't want to hide that nice citron color

The screens are also made of Gorilla glass, making them resistant to cracks and scratches, and have been tested to be break-proof from up to a meter. since people tend to use their Kindles at places like the beach or at pools, Amazon also made sure that the new Kindles can withstand sunscreen, salt water spray, and fresh water spray — but they are not waterproof. Amazon even used a machine called a tumbler to test how the tablet would hold up if it spent an entire year being knocked around in a cluttered purse.

When I gave my grandson a Fire HD 7.1 (2012), I got back the Fire 2 (2012) that I had previously given him. It's clad in a Gumdrop Drop Tech case that I really like. This tablet is getting long in the tooth, but serves me well when I go places and have to wait (games and music). The Fire HD 6 will be a perfect upgrade for this tablet - smaller, faster, and more storage. All I need is that Gumdrop case.
