You don't need to use the front light, just turn it off. Though this is NOT the same as backlighting, and doesn't cause eye fatigue.

Amazon's return policy is pretty fantastic; you can buy it and use it for a few days, if it's not so good on your eyes just send it back.

Edit: shipping for "with special offers" is listed at Nov 28. I'll have time to put my books on it and have a lovely toy to play with at Christmas (not that I'll *wait*, I'll just still be enjoying it.)

I pre-ordered the Voyage. The dimensions, the 300 dpi and the buttons sold it. I would love the ability to use my own fonts of course, so it is a bit sad that amazon does not recognize this, or at least introduce new fonts types once in a while, but for the rest I am good.

The Aura H2O seems nice too, but I already have an HD and I don't "buy" the waterproofness. I use my readers a lot at the beach or at the pool (a salted water one), and I really don't think the H2O would resist a mishap. Plus it does not seem that much better to me than the HD.

It will arrive on Germany on Nov 4th, but I will need to wait for my husband to bring it to me as I will leave Germany at the end of October. But I'll have it for my Birthday, so that's nice.

That's kind of where I am. I like the Kindle Basic (NT) screen better than any other Kindle I've seen. It just seems clearer to me. I also like its font better than the others (Touch, PW, etc.) -- it seems darker and clearer. It had the same font as the Kindle 3 (which was also clear). Now that old line of Kindles will be gone for good. (I definitely will have to get a spare.)

I tried that with the Nook ST Glow, but the screen was "muddier" than the standard Nook Simple Touch. I think to add that front lit glow, they have to add a layer of something over the screen. Maybe they've managed to make it clearer now with the newer eReaders?

I actually only upgraded in May this year but my ereaders always pass on to DH and it's his that is being sold and he has a PW1 bought in March 2013.

Since a quite a number of reviews have it sitting in a container of water, I'm not sure why you don't buy the waterproofness. Also it has an IP67 certification that it can take 3 ft for 30 minutes which a large company like Kobo isn't going to claim unless it really has it.
Since the salt can't get in anywhere the water can't the worst case would be if it stained the case of the device and likely a quick wash with water would solve that.

I did. PW2 which is now quite slow. Did perk up after a reset though. I want the higher res, bigger storage and mainly the side buttons.
