So - some of you might remember my posting about 'adopting' an orb weaver spider that spun a huge web on the front porch - Emily. And how we moved her and her web - with her & her egg sac - into the shrubbery. Well, tonight as I was mowing the lawn, and trimming under the shrubs, what did I discover? Many Emily juniors - hanging out in the shrubs - all spitting images of their black & gold mother. Once my heart rate dropped below 100 (I nearly walked face first into a huge web) I felt so proud of saving them!

On the deck, we're 'hosting' a new spider that builds her web from the eaves down to the deck furniture - surrounding the hummingbird feeder. - the nectar attracts lots of flying insects. I feared for the tiny hummers, but every day they fly 'recon' missions, hover, and study the arrangement of the web strands - then duck under the web to get to the feeding stations. They seem to be co-existing peacefully.

Could you snap a close up of one of those spiders (but put it in a spoiler for the arachnophobes among us)? I'd like to see if it's what I think it is.

I do have some neon embossing powder that came with a kit. I just checked the webshop and it looks like the heat gun is sold out at the moment. I'll probably buy the ink and some powder.

I just saw that in November the biggest craft fair is being held at the exhibition centre in my city. So after I get my new camera and after I buy or put aside the money for a new Kindle I'm going to save up for that.

Well once you do start on it my big warning to you is to really watch where you put your thumbs. I didn't have a problem, but a couple of the ladies I took that class with sure did!

If there's anything you think I can get you that would be worth paying customs just let me know! I'm not sure why I've taken so to this hobby, but i sure do like it!

Well, the store just got a Tim Holtz shipment in, including heat guns

. So I bought that, ink pad, ink pen and two jars of embossing powder (clear and copper). I've already been having fun with it.

The local craft store isn't very good (mostly focuses on cutsie themes) but the local scrapbook store is very good. If you want something they normally don't carry they can usually order it for you, though it might take a while.

I met a fellow in San Antonio, Texas back in the sixties who told me he was Jesus Christ. I met him at an apartment house filled with hippies. I was doing my AIT in the Army at the time, and would visit on the weekends (a cousin of mine was one of the hippies living there). I thought he was kidding, but someone who knew him assured me he was serious. I've since wondered if the fellow might have been Charles Manson, but I have no idea of his movements during that time period, and haven't been curious enough to find out.

Later, when I was working at Tripler Army Hospital in Hawaii, one of the patients there was pointed out to me from a distance as someone who thought he was Jesus Christ.

If you're going to start embossing get one of those trays that has rims and one corner has a hole with a cork in it. Due to the nature of embossing, the powder will go everywhere and you don't want to lose it all. This way you can recover it and pour it back into the jar

Meet Beatrice!

For a size reference, that's a Perky Pet hummingbird feeder she's hanging next to. Her size has been increasing daily - I think she's preparing to create her egg sack soon. You can just catch a glimpse of her huge orb web - I'll try tomorrow morning when the sunlight hits the web to get a better photo.

She hangs directly over the chairs & table on the deck - we have to move them underneath the eave overhang to get out of the direct sunlight! So sitting on the deck now involves some personal hazard ...

I have several friends who keep me on speed dial to come move their unwelcome spider squatters. Spiders don't bother me. Wasps, on the other hand, I will exterminate with extreme prejudice.

It's been a week. My daughter is about to present me with a grandson - about a month early, due to the same problems as last time - high blood pressure and pre-eclampsia symptoms.

House projects are ongoing....
