Late start. Getting ready to hit the streets... It's been raining all night and morning, and the flooding going to be heavy today. Too many chores in different places so I'll use the public transportation instead of my bike. Teva sandals are perfect for this sort of day. You don't mind walking through calf-deep water when your 'shoes' still work properly!

Trying to talk myself out of buying a Kindle Paperwhite when I'm in the UK later this month. It's not really working.

The only thing that does make me hesitate is that it's the time of year Amazon announces new Kindles. I wouldn't want to buy a Paperwhite only to have a new and better Kindle released during the next month or so.

New and better might be coming, but I am so pleased with my paperwhite! There are still a few administrative things i struggle with, but the reading experience is incredible!
What are the chances you could resell it off you really like whatever new release may be coming?

The chances aren't very high. We haven't got a local Amazon, all Dutch ebook stores sell epubs. I don't think a lot of Dutch people use Amazon.com for ebooks because you're forced to have a credit card and not everybody's got one in the Netherlands.

Hopefully Amazon will announce a new Kindle before the 15th, or confirm there isn't going to be one this year. If one is released later I have an excuse to plan another trip to the UK

I emailed Amazon UK to ask if I was to buy a Kindle from, let's say, Tesco or Waterstones how warranty was handled. They answered within 15 minutes that if you buy a Kindle from a shop associated with them Amazon UK would handle the warranty if necessary.

In addition, European models of the current generation have been showing up with twice the storage, so it's likely that the next generation will have 4GB available for books.

Does it have the scroll wheel with the silver bar thing on the right hand side? I am strange, I liked my K1 and sometimes miss its, well, interesting design features.

Not enough to use it, even though it still works....

I still have the box the K1 came in, that said, the rumored Kindle sounds awesome.

Ii hated the page turns on the K1, I'd wiggle or kindlekitten would come cuddle and BAM! off to another universe

I agree - the page buttons were too sensitive on the K1. That said, my Mom is about to discard hers* (unless she already has) so if anybody really wants one ....

*well, mine, really. I pass them down when I buy the next model! So far, I've stuck with the K4 -- the one before the paperwhite. No keyboard, but no backlight either. I have very sensitive eyes, and I worry about that lighting.

After having used a Kobo Aura HD since November and giving it to my sister two months ago (she doesn't mind the bugs) I'm really in love with the page turn buttons and stable firmware. There are two things I miss, the light and the flexibility when it comes to font, line spacing, etc. The latter I can live without but I really want the front light again.

The one thing I'm hesitant about is that the Paperwhite has no page turn buttons. But if the rumours are that there is a possibility they return I will probably wait for the new Kindle.

Making a shopping list for tomorrow's trip to the craft store. I got a gift certificate for my birthday and a full stamp card, which means a €10 discount. Also tomorrow the new subscription kit it released, which means I have €40 to spend.

I had planned on getting things to start embossing with (heat gun, powder, etc) but looking at the new item list of this week I see a lot of other stuff I want.
