We are really getting this thread Off-Topic, but I can't help making one more comment.
My country celebrated its official founding last week. News reporters interviewed people in the street with the question: "how old is the country?" A discouraging large number of people did not know. So to find that few people know that Iran (Persia) was once the center of the largest empire known in the history of mankind up until then is not so surprising. |

Hi everyone!
I've been reading you guys a lot and I'd like to bring my grain of salt... I think I have a new model in my hands. I've seen past posts (mainly by user Explick61) about the same specs as mine but bought in Europe. I've bought my Kindle Paperwhite last week (2nd of July), in Canada, and to my surprise, I have a 4GB model in my hands (~3.5GB available for books). I've tried the jailbreak from NiLuJe's snapshots and it works fine. I have then installed the Cover hack and this one works fine too. Tried the MKK hack (the one from the snapshot), the KUAL hack and the Collection hack but none of them seem to work. For instance, the KUAL and Collection hacks all give me the following Application error: Quote:
Are we talking about a simple modification here or something really big? I'm ready to help you out on this new model for all future users of the Kindle PW2! Regards, DA |

@DarkAngel88: What's the S/N prefix?
That's the generic error when a Kindlet fails to launch, that may not really be MKK related (it pretty much doesn't care about which device it runs on, as long as the update package runs, you're good). |

Same as Explick61, starting with "9017"
That is good news then. I tried using the MKK from its initial post (not the snapshot) and when putting the .bin file inside the root dir, the Kindle does not seem to see the file as the option "Update Your Kindle" is grayed out. (and I've already checked, my device is still jailbroken as the cover hack still works). I was only able to install the MKK version inside your post about the snapshots, which lead me to think it was related to the new version of my Kindle. |

@DarkAngel88: Besides the error, everything else you mentioned behaves as expected, so:
* Which FW version is it running? * Did you use the KUAL version from the snapshots page, too? * Is your device busy indexing stuff? * Have You Tried Turning It Off And On Again? ;D |

@DarkAngel88: Mmh.
If you have access to one, can you check if an 'official' Active Content from the Kindle Store actually runs? (I hope there are still free ones out there). Barring that, the system logs should shed some more light on this: Enter ;dm in the Homescreen's search bar: instead of launching the Search result page, it'll churn for a while, and dump 4 or 5 fives log files in the documents folder. PM me those. |

I have tried a sample of tic-tac-toe, if that counts as an Active Content.. and it worked flawlessly.
Don't know if it might give you a clue but.. one other thing that is weird on my Kindle is that the wikipedia search are all in Italian... I bought my Kindle in Canada and I only speak French and English, I don't know how I got the Italian Wikipedia. Sending you my logs by PM right away, thanks! |

Yep, very intrigued if official Kindlet runs, because...
Code:
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Unknown Kindle device: A3I3CR3NPZFVHY So, yeah, if anyone with one of those new 4GB PW2 can get his hands on an official Active Content app (which probably implies a US account), I'd be very curious to know what happens ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 07-09-2014 at 11:36 PM. |

My appreg.db contains these ID-related records:
Spoiler:
Maybe adding the new ID to the database could fix this problem... |

@dsmid: For the HTML/JS stuff, probably, but AFAICT, the Kindlet stuff is handled in a jar somewhere (cf. the 3.x-on-DXg stuff).
That said, the Store appears to be working correctly, so possibly that db is up to date on those (it lives in varlocal, IIRC, right?). Last edited by NiLuJe; 07-10-2014 at 12:24 PM. |

I can't figure out why the Update Your Kindle link stays grayed out? Even after restart the kindle without the bin. files. And I restart the installation procedures again, I'm sure that the folder kindle-5.4-jailbreak.zip is unzipen!
CAN SOME ONE HELP ME WITH THAT PLZ! p.s My kindle is 5.4.3.2 Last edited by makro514; 07-11-2014 at 12:43 AM. |

@makro514: Check the FAQ. Check your Kindle model. Make sure you're unzipping the right stuff in the right place.
