Death to buttons (except the power button)!
If this new Kindle rumor is true, I can see lots of people hating it because it has no page turn buttons. I have no idea why page turn buttons are so important to some. Heck, if I use an old device without a touch screen, I find myself sometime trying to turn the page by touching the screen. It's frustrating not to have a touch screen. |

I'm in favour of well-placed ergonomic buttons and a touch screen. Touch screen for navigation/menus/keyboard, and the option of page turn buttons so that you can rest your thumb on it and you don't have to be constantly changing hand positions/moving thumb or finger around while reading.
Buttons can also be useful for people with hand tremors who struggle to tap a screen cleanly. |

I know a touch screen can be an issue to someone with hand tremors. There are still older devices with buttons (for now). The thing is, I cannot see Amazon putting in buttons. They didn't for the PW1 & 2 and why would they for the next Kindle? |

Thin may be a result, not a goal.
Namely: if they (finally!!!) move to plastic substrate screens there will be less need for reinforcement so designing weight out also results in a thinner device. In trying for a more durable, lighter device they also get one that is thinner. And of course, "thinner" could simply be a trivial sub-millimeter change. We'll see. Just not today. |

Another reason I like physical buttons is for reading in the bath, when I put my reader in a ziploc bag. My PRS-300 worked well there, but the T1 less so since the touchscreen responds to the bag. And (but wait, there's more!) when I'm reading outdoors (eg, bus stop) and insects persist in landing on my reader and turning the page I really wish I could turn off the touchscreen response temporarily and just use the page turn buttons. So just because *you* don't like buttons doesn't mean there aren't other people who *do* want them and the more variety there is in devices, the better off we'll all be. |

^^^ just be glad they haven't gotten rid of the power button. No doubt they've thought about it.
This rumor is pretty weak. Thinner? Shocking! |

The next Paperwhite will be a large 8-way button with the display projected above the surface (so your thumbs won't block the text) via Amazon's magic 3-D technology.

The next PaperWhite will be beamed directly into our brains.
Like all Kindles, it has an ad-supported (default) option. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by eschwartz; 06-20-2014 at 02:04 AM. Reason: is ad-supported to has option |
