Have you also tried wiping the Kindle by doing a factory reset/restore, before updating? It is not clear to me if your manual reset means that you rebooted (restarted) the Kindle using the power button, or that you wiped it using the menu option.

I meant restarting only. But I've tried the factore restore and still not working. I noticed that during instalation it says update error 006 on screen.
Then I tried using kubrick to make a clean install of 5.1.2 firmware but I couldn't manage to make kubrick boot properly.

Yes, it had some stuff installed but I can't recall all of them. It was jailbroken. I tried the ;debugOn > ;dumpMessages earlier today but nothing showed. It was after the factory reset, though.

Factory reset does not remove hacks.

I meant to say that the dumpMessages command didn't return anything probably because I factory reseted it before.

Now I don't know what else I could do.

Find the uninstaller for the hack. If you installed it yourself, it should be somewhere on your hard drive.

Everything added or changed in the default Kindle software is a hack, starting with the jailbreak, which can be used to install other additions.

I burnt kubrick into a dvd and successfully reinstalled firmware 5.1.2, later allowing the update. Thanks everyone for all the help. You made all the difference in my world.
