But... you're still wrong!

And the funny thing is, you managed to do that while being right!

As for ADE 2 being unstable, it's very stable on Windows 7 32 and 64-bit as well as Windows 8.1 64-bit and Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit.
It doesn't really matter how well it runs on Windows, since that wasn't the issue. Two people who use Linux were discussing a problem with a WINE program. Who are you helping by telling them (again, 4 months later) that it's "their fault" for wanting to run Linux? Is it personally offensive to you when people run Linux? Did they insult your Windows computer?

Did they even say it is Adobe's fault that it is unstable? No, they simply said (for better or for worse) that it IS unstable! I am sure that as knowledgeable Linux users, they are perfectly aware that they are making tradeoffs/sacrifices, and are prepared to deal with it.

Thank you for the bile. We all learned a great deal from your explanation, I am sure.

A program written for Windows is not unstable because it won't run under Linux. That's like saying that Linux is unstable because it won't allow ADE 2 to be run.

And both are entirely unlike saying that ADE 2.0 on Linux is unstable.

There was a qualifier there that everyone here but you seems to have noticed.

Also, thanks for reconfiguring your time machine.

That's like saying any program that doesn't run under Linux is unstable just because it was written for a different OS. ADE 2 is not written to be compatible with Wine under Linux. It's written to be compatible under Window. And as post just after you, you can run a virtual Windows and thus use ADE 2 under Linux. So I guess that no longer makes ADE 2 unstable under Linux since it's not proven it does work.

I'm not entirely sure wat you want to say... no one doubts that ADE "runs fine here on" ... um ... Windows (in a VM) ...

re:ereader support of ADE3.0, only apps as far as I know.

@JSWolf, you seem to be deliberately missing the point here. I give up. </disgusted>

If anyone has anything to say about the actual topic of the thread, and let's hear it. If not, just let it die an overdue death.

To complain a windows program because it isn't running on Linux in a Windows emulation with limited functionalities is as awkward as make an epic discussion about this fact.
My last thirty-six words to this discussion.

You're right in a way, JSWolf, but shortly after I agreed I was wrong in saying that ADE 2.x was "unstable".
Since ADE 1.7 works great to get the ebooks before Calibre deal with them, I'm fine using that version.

Back on topic: July is around the corner, do we have more news regarding ADE 3.x?

I haven't seen anything since they back-tracked on the July deadline:

It's still the case that if you have ADE 3.0 and download from Content Server 5, you'll be sent a file with the new DRM.

But there's no hard deadline for Adobe forcing all CS5 servers to only downloaded the new DRM, which will mean that everyone will need to upgrade to ADE 3.0 instead of sticking with 1.7 or 2.x.

It is possible that individual retailers might decide to do this, perhaps at the instigation of publishers. But I haven't seen any signs that anyone has actually done this yet.

Do we know if any stores have upgraded to CS5?

Hmm... Further research implies that CS5 can use either the old DRM, with ADE 2 and ADE 3, or the new DRM with ADE 3 only, but not New DRM with ADE 3 and old DRM with ADE 2.

In which case even people using ADE 3 at the moment will be getting the old DRM, until someone flips the switch on a CS 5 server, when for new books they'll start getting the new DRM.

I'm sticking with ADE 2.x myself.

This is the safest option. THen CS4 and CS5 HAVE to deliver the books in the old DRM version. It will become very nasty as soon as Adobe and/or the sellers are disabling usage of ADE 2.x by either not providing a file with old DRM (you get errors), or by just outright blocking the program.

Has Alf, or anyone else, mentioned something about cracking the new DRM yet?

I'll just stick with only buying DRM'd books from either Amazon or Barnes and Noble, and avoid having to deal with Adobe's DRM at all.
