Totally off topic: I don't mind the American spellings for flavor and neighbor, but valor just looks wrong to me (a Canadian). At first, I thought Valor's Choice was referring to some person named Valor (like Sophie's Choice).

I believe that Tanya Huff is Canadian.

I'm paying $15 for 3 books to be OCR'd and searchable, two hard covers and a paperback with tiny print. I've another few days to wait until they are done. If the results are as I hope, I might even be able to convert to epub or mobi and fix the formatting myself. If not, at least I can read them on my tablet. BUT, reading it at all is the current goal. I feel a little bad, as mentioned, because the books are destroyed in the process, but I would have gotten rid of them anyway, since I was unable to read them. Let me explain the problem with craft books vs. novels. Craft (and most cookbooks) use fonts that have a fair amount of space between the letters. Novels often have the letters quite scrunched together. I have an issue with ghosting, where I get offset images of the letters. With the spacing, it's a nonproblem. If there is no space, they all get jumbled together. So, just making it bigger doesn't really help all that much, although it can. My goal is to be able to covert to epub or mobi, where I can manipulate the font to something that is far easier for me. Last edited by Tarana; 04-11-2014 at 11:59 AM. |

There are innumerable words that have different meanings in British and American English.

Perhaps he asked
Did you mean between rather than in? Or is in one of those words? |

One could use either, but in this context I think "in" is the more natural choice of word.

I totally agree with you Harry that there are differences in meaning in words between Brit/American, such as bird or boot, but what I meant was that the differences of SPELLING of such words do not indicate a completely different meaning, in my experience. Valor and Valour mean the same thing.

Just as a note, 3 more Zelazny books have appeared in the kindle store - "A Dark Traveling", "Isle of the Dead, Eye of the Cat" [this is a double book], and "The Doors of His Face, The Lamps of his Mouth". I hadn't read "A Dark Traveling" before. Obviously, these are some of his lesser known works, but it's good to see them starting to trickle out. Add in "Damnation Alley" and "The Last Defender of Camelot" and that makes 6 of his novels available, all in the last year.

On the other hand, that's new cover art, and not a bad depiction of the protagonist, at that. |
