Depends on the site.

Some adapters (we call the code specific to each site an adapter) collect what we call 'site specific data'. The adapter for ffnet collects the numbers of reviews, favs & follows in addition to the regular metadata.

So if you create a custom column with lookup name #favs, and check the 'Allow custom_column_settings' option on the Custom Columns tab, then you can add this to your personal.ini:

I've begun using FFDL to just update the meta. How do I get it to only put the genre info into the tags column? For AO3 it currently inputs all the tags, characters, genre, warnings, fandom etc.

In personal.ini you can control what ends up in calibre's Tags column with the include_subject_tags keyword. (It's named for the dc:subject tags used inside epubs. FFDL didn't start out as a plugin.)

To only include genre for AO3 specifically, put this in your personal.ini:

include_subject_tags: genre

At the bottom of the personal.ini tab is a button to view the plugin-defaults.ini file. I've tried to document all the options there.

However, there's no search function or anything, so it may be easier to look at the file in the source repository.

At the top of the FFDL config dialog there's also a link to the FAQs. There are some other useful docs in the same wiki area.

I've been reading the documents and searched the thread to see what others have done, but this just isn't working.

I don't see anything wrong with the first part--I suspect you're not matching the source exactly. Can you provide a couple story URLs that you're trying to affect?

The second one is because parentheses '()' are part of the regular express language and need to be escaped when they're part of the string to be matched:

I ran into that problem again, but I have an idea what might be causing it. As I am currently trying to reorganize the stories I have already downloaded, I'm transfering them into different libraries. I set the add book feature to ignore a story if it is already in the new library. I think that might be affecting the override function of FFDL. Once I finish moving the stories, I will reset my preferences back to override stories when the story already exsists in the new library.

I was wondering how to do that. Now I'm wondering if I can use the extra_valid entries with the include_in_(valid entry) to repopulate the tags with what I want. Right now, Once I am ready to send to my device, I take every book and do a search and replace in editing. For instance, I take search my character column, add a 'C.' to the beginning, and then put the new metadata into the tags column. It would be easier if I could do that automatically as I grab the story. I'll have to fiddle with it when I have the stories sorted.

Does the second fandom not need the 'category=>' in front of it? For some reason, I thought it had to look like this:

That story has two category values "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel: the Series" The replace_metadata feature operates on each value independently. So while you've replaced Angel, you haven't done anything to the original Buffy category. You want something like this:

replace_metadata:
 category=>Angel: the Series=>Buffyverse
 category=>Buffy:? [tT]he Vampire Slayer=>Buffyverse

The second regular expression will match all of these:
Buffy: the Vampire Slayer
Buffy: The Vampire Slayer
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Buffy The Vampire Slayer

It may or may not be necessary for AO3, but some sites aren't terribly consistent.
