*sigh* Have we discovered all the good freebies and there aren't any good ones left? Oh well, maybe I can knock something off my TBR list.
They are getting less and less it seems. However the pay books seem to be getting lower and lower in price. I think we are finally getting through to bigger publishers like Harpercollins, Entangled that if they want to compete they need to have lower prices in general.

I agree that HC and Entangled are more reasonably priced however I've noticed that many of the newer Entangled are coming out at $3.99 after their $0.99 debut sale. Penguin, S&S and Hachette are still pricing at $7.99 and leaving it to the retailers to discount.

I've also noticed that indie prices are climbing. $3.99 is becoming much more common and I'm also seeing a lot $4.99 where they used to all be $2.99.

Amazon's Montlake imprint used to be pretty much $3.99 across the board, now they're $4.99.

I about fell out of my chair when I saw how few (for me) books I purchased this week and that they equaled the number I read. While that doesn't make Mt. TBR smaller, it at least doesn't make it grow

I didn't spend much this week at all and it's all still settlement credits. Yay me!

Recently read:
  • Reece, Christy - Return to Me (Last Chance Rescue #2) - 4
  • Kilmer-Purcell, Josh - I Am Not Myself These Days - 3.5
a rare non-fiction read for me
  • Chapman, Janet - Spellbound Falls (Spellbound Falls #1) -3
  • Cunning, Janet - Backstage Pass (Sinners on Tour #1) - 3
  • G., Whitney (Garcia Williams) - Reasonable Doubt (Reasonable Doubt #1) - 4
I'm hooked enough to be looking forward to #2
  • Milan, Courtney - The Governess Affair (Brothers Sinster #0.5) - 4
Looking forward to the next in the series.

I also went through Calibre and made a list of the series I've at least started AND have already purchased at least 1 more book in that series. I now have a spreadsheet with 83 active series So I made a new reading goal rule, I can't start a new series unless I have at least caught up by reading the books I've already purchased on 2 active series.

I think I'm not the computer long enough to be tempted to buy anything. lol I'm just enjoying my Scribd trial. Edith Layton's Regencies are keeping me sane. The Choice is my favorite yet. Gilly is un like most heroines. She brave, honest, and a realist. I love her as a teen in The Cad but her own story is even better so far.

I succumbed to buying this one as well but haven't read it.

You've accomplished what I've been wanting to do but dreading. If it makes you feel any better, I'm sure my amount would be in the same vicinity as yours.

Blossom, take care of that knee and hope you feel better soon.

Loveswept titles on sale for $0.99

Along Came Trouble (Camelot #2) by Ruthie Knox
Kindle | Kobo (Nook and Google have not dropped yet)

Quote:
An accomplished lawyer and driven single mother, Ellen Callahan isn’t looking for any help. She’s doing just fine on her own. So Ellen’s more than a little peeved when her brother, an international pop star, hires a security guard to protect her from a prying press that will stop at nothing to dig up dirt on him. But when the tanned and toned Caleb Clark shows up at her door, Ellen might just have to plead the fifth.

Back home after a deployment in Iraq and looking for work as a civilian, Caleb signs on as Ellen’s bodyguard. After combat in the hot desert sun, this job should be a breeze. But guarding the willful beauty is harder than he imagined—and Caleb can’t resist the temptation to mix business with pleasure. With their desires growing more undeniable by the day, Ellen and Caleb give in to an evening of steamy passion. But will they ever be able to share more than just a one-night stand?
Pleasing the Pirate by Sharon Cullen
Kindle | Kobo

Quote:
With her clan’s crops burned and their property confiscated, Mairi McFadden is desperate to free her brother from imprisonment so that he can take his rightful place as chief. Her only hope is the fierce English pirate Phin Lockwood, but the buccaneer laughs at her meager funds. His roving eyes, however, tell Mairi there’s something else he’ll take in exchange for her brother’s rescue. Though she burns with hatred for the English, she’ll do anything to save her clan.

The crown has made it clear that Phin has two choices: bring in a certain Scottish traitor or hang. And he’s not about to let a tiny, whiskey-eyed woman get in his way, even if she is pointing a gun at him. When Phin learns that Mairi’s brother is the very man he seeks, he’s more than willing to use the lass as bait. But as the moment of capture draws near, Phin is surprised by his feelings for the courageous beauty who has him considering risking his life—for someone besides himself.
The Reluctant Countess by Wendy Vella
Kindle | Kobo

Quote:
Regal, poised, and elegant, Sophie, Countess of Monmouth, is everything that a highborn lady should be. But Sophie is hiding a past that is far from royal. When Patrick, Earl of Coulter, realizes that her story doesn’t add up, he resolves to find out the truth of what Sophie and her sister-in-law are concealing. Although Sophie has every reason to avoid him, the handsome and charismatic Patrick awakens something wicked deep within her soul . . . a powerful need that Sophie must stifle in order to protect her place in society.

Despite Sophie’s humble background, the raven-haired beauty has won Patrick’s heart. But what Sophie needs now is an ally. Viscount Myles Dumbly, the disgruntled former heir of Monmouth, is determined to expose Sophie as a fraud to recapture his lost inheritance. Soon Patrick is drawn into a fight for both their lives. Somehow he must find a way not only to rescue Sophie from poverty once and for all, but to keep her in his arms forever.

Sorry to hear you are in pain and laid up mostly. Glad you have books to keep you company.

I actually read The Cad too from my Scribd trial, like you I gave it 3 stars.

I am so glad to hear that Gilly is the heroine in The Choice.

I haven't bought anything this week, the last book I bought was using the last of the settlement and I have 2 more pre-orders coming in. But otherwise, I will not buy books. I am trying my hardest to stick to that. . I have so many books I already own and with the library, prime loans and now Scribd, I think I have enough to keep me busy for a while.

If I get recommendations I'll add them to a shelf on GR and either see if its available on library, scribd, prime and if not, I'll add it to my ereaderiq list for price reduction.

I have realized that my buying has gone a little out of control last year and although overall I saved a lot of money buying books on sale, I have to read the darn things too at some point. Heck, I have books still to read going back to 2008, so there is that.

If I see a special freebie, I'll get it of course, but buying for now is on hold.

eta: I wanted to add the goodreads shelf I created as I am finding books on Scribd to read. Maybe it will be helpful for some trying to decide. Mind you, I am heavy on the historical romances, time travel, native american HR, back list stuff.
So here is some of the stuff I found that isn't for free on amazon or at my library.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/lis...ser_id=4129885

I am still looking for stuff though.
I also made a list of authors that I found that are mostly back list authors and again, most are historical romance authors.
Anita Mills, Pamela Morsi, Jane Bonander, Sherril Bodine, Candace McCarthy, Laura Parker, Katherine Kingsley, Raine Cantrell, Judith E. French, ALison Stuart, Rexanne Becnell, Rosanne Bittner, Pam Crooks, Ruth Ryan Langan, Patricia Gaffney.

I am still adding to my list.

Interesting. Going only through Calibre (and not my print TBR) I have
  • 64 series in various stages where I have read at least one book and already own at least one more that I have not read. (Does not include series I am caught up on in which future books have not yet been released)
  • 35 series which I have not started, but own only the first book
  • 104 series I have not started but own multiple books (sad to say only a few of these are where I own only two books, most were 3 or more )
I knew I had a buy-books-in-a-series-without-ensuring-I-like-it problem, but yikes At least some of these are series by autobuy authors, but the majority of them are not.

I'm pretty sure I do not want to know how many I have at least 1 book that I haven't started yet. But looking at my unread/paid virtual library I see 467 series listed. Yikes!
