The new margin settings for PDFs is interesting. Helped slightly with a pure text based PDF, but it only really cut off the top and bottom and not the sides. Still useless for things like textbooks. Panning and zooming IS faster though.

Kindle Paperwhite 2 Software Update 5.4.3 is now out.

Here’s the full list of changes with the new 5.4.3 software:

Access Notes from the Reading Menu
While reading, you can view all of your notes by tapping the Menu icon and then selecting Notes. You can also continue to access the Notes tab from the Go To menu in the reading toolbar. To learn more, go to Add, View, Edit or Remove Notes.

Manage Cloud Collections
See all of your collections in a Collections view, and customize where your collections show on your device. To learn more, go to View and Manage Your Cloud Collections.

PDF Improvements
Pan and zoom within PDF documents more quickly and easily, and adjust the margins for an optimized reading experience.

Cancel Full Book Purchase from within a Sample
While reading a book sample, you can view the price of the full book and purchase with one tap. You can also cancel the purchase before the download is complete by tapping cancel purchase.

I read that if you unstar a collection it no longer shows in Cloud Collections only in All Views. So if I set my Kindle to All Views how do I only see the collections on my device?

Basically I am on a PW1, one of the reasons I won't buy a PW2 is Cloud Collections as I only want to see collections for books on my device, not my husbands 40 collections and 800 books.

Is this now possible?

The function to quick change dictionary was my reason to update. It's working nicely.

As said JB survives, but you have to reinstall the Mobileread Kindlet Kit to run KUAL.

If you set the collections to All Views, then that collection will be viewable everywhere. If you star it then it is visible on the Home Screen and in the Collections view only. When you are in Collections view on the Home screen, it greys out the Cloud and Device options.

If you want to see just your collections, then you should unstar all your husbands collections, then set your view to Collections. But keep in mind when in Cloud view, any books that in collections that are not starred will show up as not being in any collections. I am not sure if the same thing happens in device view because all of mine are in collections that are visible.

Honestly, I like this new iteration of Cloud Collections, I have to tweak what is starred on mine in order to only show Collections, but it is a vast improvement over seeing all the Accounts collections on every device. I hope they plan to integrate this feature on all types of devices with Cloud Collections. And of course they should have included on the website what is actually shown and/or hidden when you hide collections from the Home page.

Thanks very much. That sounds perfect for me. I like the Collections view as I only keep books on my device in Collections and I keep my kindle set on Device only. I'm not interested in Cloud view.

It's not going affect you, Josie, if you have a PW1.

Cloud collection / starred collection massive confusion. OK so I updated and read all the (limited) documentation, but how exactly do collections / cloud collections / starred collections work? If anyone has simple explanation it would be much appreciated!

I do use collections, I just don't understand the benefits of the new features...

Since you waited this long, you may as well wait for the Kindle PW 2014. It will probably be released in October but there have been rumors it could be released as early as May.

There is a collections view now. In the past there was a collections sort that was used to keep collections at the top of the home page and that's still there. Collections view doesn't affect that. It makes collections invisible if the view isn't set to All Items.

PW1 Update! PW2 feature parity!

But at least you can downgrade if necessary and disable OTA updates.
