We have our "Scruffy" (an old, 99' Mercedes A160) as our DTV (Dog Transport Vehicle) and SCCPTDA (Shopping Centre Car Park Trolley Dint Absorber). It's not near as small (or cute) as a Smart Fourtwo, but it's still pretty dinky, and being able to easily pull all the seats out in any configuration is pretty nifty too - the dogs effectively get more room with one of the back seats (the larger one) removed than they do behind the second row in the big 4WD ("Wolfie").

That's what I like about it and the fact that it reminds me of my first car, a Ford 1963 flat nose van, where you sat in front of the forward wheels.

They're talking cars. Isn't that off-topic enough??? Me, I want one of the new Smart Cars. Or, actually, I suspect I want the old smart car, jury-rigged so it is legal in the states. I think they changed the motor when they actually introduced it here.

I drove one of the new Smart Cars (a friend bought one.) It was smaller than a Kindle and twice as ugly.

The inside was constructed of cheap feeling materials and there was barely enough room to squeeze my 6' 5" frame into the seat. Other than that, it had little or no power. The gas mileage was the about the same as the Honda Civic that has more room and more power. You could put the Smart Car in the carry basket of a Vespa as an emergency vehicle.

In short, I was not impressed with the car. I think there are many far better choices out there at about the same price point.

Which Honda Civic? The gas-only model, or the hybrid?

Ahhh. I wonder if the original engine was more powerful. The original-but-retrofitted cars certainly cost more. $23-24k, rather than $12-14k. Oh well. Thanks for the review!

I have a MINI Cooper now (not the S) but I *do* like to accelerate rapidly..... The Smart car probably would NOT suit me.
