Much easier to control...

Dreams, they actually make 'special' umbrellas just for this purpose. English made, they have a lightweight unbreakable center post correctly 'balanced' for accuracy. Not sharpened to a fine point, but tapered enough to get the job done. They sell for about $250 USD and completely legal to carry, even in the UK and US. There are also actual sword umbrellas made in South Africa, the sort where a fine steel sharpened rapier-style weapon can be withdrawn from the body of the umbrella. These sell for about $400 USD and are illegal to carry in most countries.

Trying to catch up with my life, including my life on MobileRead. I retired Friday, and the lead up to that moment was filled with all kinds of government endgames that ate away every free moment of the past week.

Jeez, not only retired (a state that I long for, but baring a lottery win...), but you had to rub salt in the wound by retiring on my birthday!!!

Congratulations, enjoy, and spare a thought for us poor workin' stiffs every now and then.

Happy Retirement, Tom!

Please let us know when you reach the point of wanting to go back to work just because it gave you MORE free time than retirement! I have to use an calendar app just to keep track of what I'm supposed to be doing each day now.

Decided yesterday to celebrate the beginning of my first week of retirement with a trip to an oral surgeon to have one of my canines removed. I've been celebrating the pain all day today with the happy pills the doctor gave me. But at least the pain is subsiding a bit. Perhaps by tomorrow I won't need the pills. Usually I only take one or two pills after an extraction and let the rest go bad, but this one was a bear.

Thanks, everyone! The kind thoughts and warm wishes are most appreciated!

@Stitchawl: I'm already seeing what you mean by the lack of free time, but it's not worth going back to work for!

@5thWiggle: If it's any consolation, I originally planned to retire around my birthday in April, 2010, but a couple of major monkey wrenches were thrown into the works that completely upset my plans. As a result, I determined to never cut my hair again until I could do it as a free man.
