				Label setting question

			Hello

If anybody uses XBMC, it should easily understand what I need. XBMC has clearly defined field in database, which says if movie was seen, and also when. It also automatically set this fields after seeing 60% of movie, and I can also easily mark movie as seen with 2 clicks. Calibre doesn't have such a predefined field, but I can easily add one myself as a label. Then I can see column with labels in browser. It's all I can. No possibility to automatically mark a book read when I finish reading it on my Android phone. No fast way to switch label from unread to read state. There are three missing pieces to do what I want 1) make a button which switch label from unread to read - it seems like quite easy Calibre plugin. 2) share method to switch label via web service or some other communication method - seems like another Calibre plugin. Maybe something like this already exists? 3) Android book reader which will call above method when book is finished. It could be also done by Calibre Companion or similar software. I'm a programmer, and Python seems to be easy to learn, so I could do all of this pieces. Bout I would like to ask you if what I've written is a good way to do it what I want. Maybe it could be done easier? |

There's no way for Calibre to automatically do that from external readers, especially from external reader on devices. There would be way too many combinations to maintain.

But you can create a yes/no custom column and manually update that. It would be a "two-click mark". |

Chaley (Calibre Companion developer) said that marking a book as read and reporting back to calibre is on his todo list but this requires major changes (possibly more than can be managed by a plugin) to calibre to accommodate this possibility.

What's the difference with Kobo Utilites Plugin, which get the status from the ereader and updated custom columns?

I'm not familiar with that plugin (since I don't own that device) but maybe a plugin will be able to do the job if the device in question can send the proper info back. Currently I don't know of any Android app that can do this.

That I understand. The plugin analyze the device database, so it has the info.

For Calibre Companion and other apps on iOS or Android, I could see it happening in other ways. If they can do two-way communication with calibre, then it should be possible, but I could see it needing a plugin or change in calibre. |

For now Calibre content server is read only. So it should share some webservices, or I need to write plugin for it. Plugin will not work in server only service so is worse option.
